90% Scholarship, Medical Doctor

By participating in the “Good time” music video with new students and joining the VinUni Harmony, Vin-A-house and many other networking activities to celebrate the new school year, Nguyen Minh Khoi – a new Medical Doctor student – had had his first taste of VinUnians’s “Work hard, play hard” spirit. It was exactly this that had helped Khoi become close with his new acquaintances: “Everyone at VinUni, from students to lecturers and staff, were all very welcoming, friendly, and warm.”

Khoi added that: “Besides lecturers, the teaching assistants are always willing to help when I encounter difficulties in class. In addition to specialized knowledge in the subject, I can also ask them questions in other fields that they are knowledgeable in.” Along with the main course lecturer, teaching assistants will be the people in charge of students’ assignments and projects as well as in-class student support. Furthermore, Khoi was particularly interested in “Office Hour”. Like in world-class universities, at each week’s fixed “Office Hour” time slots, students have the chance to enquire about lessons, make suggestions for the curriculum, or even ask for advice on personal projects from professors and lecturers.

Having spent 3 years studying at a university in the US, Khoi was particularly impressed with VinUni’s state-of-the-art facilities and its Medicine curriculum. With the hopes of broadening access to healthcare, especially to those from difficult backgrounds in rural areas, Khoi greatly appreciated the opportunity to work in Vinmec’s outreach clinics. That was why he decided to return to Vietnam. According to Khoi, the fact that VinUni continuously encouraged students to carry out Active Learning and Team-based Learning was crucial to mastering specialized subjects – something clearly demonstrated by VinUni students.

Joining VinUnity, Khoi hoped to “work with his peers to promote community responsibility in each and every student, encouraging them to maintain an eco-conscious lifestyle and engage with non-profit organizations.” Additionally, Khoi shared that he was in the process of introducing Frisbee to VinUnians, thereby increasing the diversity of extracurricular activities available. Having been President of the Frisbee Society during his time studying in the US, Khoi wanted to spread the love for this interesting and new sport. In order to strengthen students’ social connections, VinUni greatly supports students’ initiatives to establish and manage their own social, sports, cultural, and specialized clubs.
