The University’s policies for academic appointments, reappointments and promotions are based on international norms while also considering applicable Vietnamese laws and regulations related to University’s governance structure as a private not-for-profit educational institution.

All open positions will be public at the University career web site, as well as in multiple international and national online academic job posting and related conferences and professional fora.
All long-term appointments intended for over one year of total duration require a formal search and an ad-hoc Search Committee (SC). The short-listed candidates are invited for interview and job talk, typically as part of a campus visit over one or more days. The job talk of the candidate will be designed by the Search Committee, it can include a presentation of his/her teaching, research and service background and planning for the position; and a question-and-answer session with the audience.
Reappointment decisions are based upon excellence in performance and potential for future contributions in the areas for which the faculty was appointed and in part upon the match between the faculty’s competence and institutional priorities.
Aside from appointment and reappointment, recognition of the faculty contribution and their professional advance in the University is achieved via the promotion system. Promotion is available to the professorial ranks, i.e. from Assistant Professor to Associate Professor and from Associate Professor to Professor, as well as from Lecturer to Senior Lecturer; However, a Senior Lecturer cannot be promoted to a professorial rank, but is eligible to apply for an open position via the open recruitment process above. Clinical and Practice faculty, as well as Teaching and Research Faculty, are also eligible for promotion as below under the same title modifiers. VinUni Promotion and Tenure Committee will be established to facilitate the process of faculty promotion internally in alignment with the regulations of Vietnamese government.
Contract and Tenure for Professorial Track
At VinUniversity, a new Assistant Professor will go through a six-year tenure-track period. Faculty initial appointment and first reappointment are typically for 3-year term each. Second faculty reappointment (after 6 years) would lead to an indefinite term appointment (tenure).
Indefinite term appointment (tenure) is a privilege of faculty of the University, awarded on the grounds of and requiring scholarly excellence in both teaching and research work, along with contribution to service of the University and society at large, warranting lifelong dedication to impactful scholarship. For Assistant or Associate Professors, both current performance and future promise are closely examined, while for Professors their cumulative past achievements are also deliberated.
VinUni offers twelve-month competitive salary commensurate with education and experience.
