OVERSEAS SHORT COURSE/ STUDY TOUR

Participating in short-term courses at VinUni offers students an opportunity to discover the world in a short period of time at an affordable cost. In joining one of these intensive programs at VinUni, students can obtain study abroad experience in as short a time as two weeks or so in order to attain a greater understanding of Vietnamese people, language, cultures, and environments. Such a short-term course will give you an initial taste of life in Vietnam.

You have the freedom to select whichever short-term, study abroad programs that you wish. Please make sure that you work with your home university in order to follow all of the requirements, including completing the application process, taking a leave of absence, and assuring transfer of credits.

1. OPPORTUNITY TO JOIN INBOUND STUDENT PROGRAM WITH STUDENTS FROM THE HONG KONG UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY IN HANOI! 

Within the framework of research cooperation and student exchange activities between VinUniversity (VinUni) and the HKUST, from 29 July 2023 to 27 August 2023, VinUni will welcome 18 students and faculty members from HKUST to attend a 1-month inbound student program. With mixed teams involving students from both universities, the program consists of the following:
• Course on Global Political Economy delivered by VinUni Faculty
• Group work and culture exchange
• Field trips and site visits around Hanoi
• Credit course recognition.

2.VINUNI AND UBC STUDENT RESEARCH FORUM 2023 AT VINUNI ON MAY 21 – 31, 2023. 

Within the framework of research cooperation and student exchange activities between VinUniversity (VinUni) and the University of British Columbia (UBC), from 21 May 2023 to 31 May 2023, VinUni will welcome 20 students and faculty members from UBC to attend a 10-day Student Research Forum organized at VinUni campus.  With the mixed participation of students and faculty members from both universities, the forum will discuss on the topic: “How to advance human development in the global age, while protecting the planet and cultural identity”. 

This is an opportunity for UBC and VinUniversity students to come together, problem-solve on the world’s toughest issues, and co-create original research. With mixed teams involving students from both universities, the forum consists of the following:

  • Expert Lectures & discussions.
  • Group work and problem-solving.
  • Pre-assignments to prepare for group work.
  • Field trips and site visits around Hanoi.
  • Final presentations at VinUni.
  • Final individual report.

Theme: How to advance human development in the global age, while protecting the planet and cultural identity?

  • National identity and social equity: How can a country balance openness to the global economy with preserving national identity, dealing with social equality, protecting national culture, protecting the environment?
  • Digital engagement and misinformation: How should we benefit from digital opportunities for development while dealing with digital problems, such as misinformation, online violence, cultural insensitivity?
  • Climate change: How can we accelerate climate change prevention and response? What can we learn from Vietnam’s actions in this regard?
  • Biodiversity: Protecting biodiversity in the spirit of the new UN Biodiversity Framework: what can we learn from Vietnam’s experience and initiatives?
  • Public health and pandemics: Dealing with pandemics: what can we learn from Vietnam’s experience with Covid?
  • Trade and economic inequality:  How to balance the integration into trade agreements (CPTPP, RCEP, etc) and integrated in global supply chains, while take care of disadvantaged groups falling behind, manage social crises and support indigenous people.
  • Geopolitical tensions and instability: At a time of growing disruptions and tensions about great powers, what course should middle powers and mid-size countries take? How can they support each other to bring stability and mutual benefits?

While working with their groups, students will attend lectures offered by faculty members from UBC and Vin-Uni on the topic and take part in field trips and site-visits around the Hanoi area.

UBC students will have the opportunity to learn about Vietnamese culture and politics first-hand while receiving mentorship from distinguished professors from both UBC and Vin-Uni.

This program is part of VinUni global engagement strategy, making VinUni a new academic exchange destination for students and faculty from leading universities around the world.
