VinUni becomes the World’s Youngest and Fastest University to Achieve QS 5-Star Rating
The prestigious global educational ranking organization QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) has officially announced that VinUniversity has been awarded the QS 5-Star rating.
The QS Stars rating system is part of Quacquarelli Symonds’ quality evaluation framework – a globally recognized benchmark for assessing the quality of education at universities worldwide. The system evaluates institutions across criteria such as learning experience, graduate outcomes, sustainability, global engagement, research, and innovation. The 5-Star rating is reserved for universities that excel across all criteria.
VinUniversity was recognized by QS under its latest and most rigorous standards, achieving 5 stars in nine categories: global engagement, good governance, programme strength, academic development, teaching, employability, facilities, arts, and social impact.
In terms of global engagement, VinUniversity impressed with its extensive academic and research collaborations with prestigious global partners and its high ratio of international faculty and students, representing over 20 countries worldwide.
For good governance – a newly introduced criterion in QS rankings—the university excelled by implementing innovative governance practices. VinUniversity’s policies emphasize sustainable development, inclusivity, and employee satisfaction.
Regarding programme strength, the university submitted its health sciences programs, including the Residency Program and Nursing Program, for evaluation. These programs demonstrated their quality through stringent international accreditations such as ACGME-I for the Residency Program and ACEN for the Nursing Program, alongside a 100% employment rate for graduates immediately after completion.
In academic development, 100% of the faculty participate in training programs focused on active learning methodologies. The faculty’s innovative teaching methods were further validated by the QS Reimagine Education Award 2023.
On teaching, student satisfaction with both teaching and the overall learning experience exceeded the requirements for the QS 5-Star rating. Notably, within just two months of graduation, 26.6% of VinUniversity alumni had been accepted into graduate programs at leading universities worldwide. Students enjoy personalized learning experiences facilitated by academic advising from their freshman year and a state-of-the-art Learning Management System (LMS) on the advanced Canvas platform, complemented by 5-star standard facilities since the university’s inception.
In employability, VinUniversity’s first graduating class achieved an 80% employment and entrepreneurship rate within two months – far exceeding the QS benchmark of 90% within 24 months. Surveyed alumni have secured positions at multinational corporations and leading companies in Vietnam, such as E&Y, McKinsey, Google, Bosch, IBM, and Techcombank.
Mr. Samuel Ang, Regional Director for Asia at QS, remarked: “VinUniversity’s commitment to excellence through the delivery of high-quality education paves the way for a brighter future for both Vietnamese and international students.”
Professor David Bangsberg, Provost of VinUniversity, highlighted the institution’s foundation on international standards to train future leaders and ensure its enduring development. “From the beginning, we prioritized systematization and standardization according to global benchmarks. This approach is both a prerequisite and a lever for future advancements,” he stated.
“We committed ourselves to becoming the youngest university in the world to achieve a comprehensive QS 5-Star rating. Today, we have proven that age is not a barrier to success. VinUniversity has been breaking limits to become one of the most outstanding young universities,” Professor Bangsberg added.
By becoming one of the youngest universities to receive the QS 5-Star rating, VinUniversity continues its journey toward establishing itself as a world-class institution dedicated to nurturing Vietnam’s talented youth. “This milestone not only underscores VinUniversity’s determination to rise within the global educational landscape but also opens up numerous opportunities for collaboration and the attraction of talented students from around the world,” a university representative noted.
