Turning passion for innovation into dream

Meet Nguyễn Công Nam, the outstanding young man who has just won the prestigious Talent Scholarship from the College of Engineering and Computer Science VinUni. Inspired by life experiences, especially through volunteer trips to ethnic minority regions, Nam passionately shares his journey from hands-on experimentation to a grand dream of contributing to improving the quality of life for Vietnamese people through scientific innovations.

“I always consider myself lucky to have access to a good education and the opportunity to travel to many places,” Nam shared. From here, his dream of contributing to society was formed. Starting with small projects, Nam and his friends established the STEM Juniors science club, where they shared a passion for science. This club is not only a place for Nam and his friends to conduct research together but also a hub for creating many innovative inventions. One of the standout ideas is a prototype device to estimate carbon emissions from vehicle engines, thereby reducing emissions into the environment. This project reflects Nam and his friends’ determination when they recognized the increasingly alarming environmental pollution in Vietnam. They hope that their small contributions can help improve the living environment for the community.

Besides his passion for science, Nam always dedicates time to volunteer activities. The desire to help improve the quality of life for Vietnamese people also partly motivated Nam as he traveled through many challenging regions. Trips to ethnic minority areas with friends helped Nam better understand the challenges faced by the locals, further strengthening his determination to contribute to society through science and mechanical engineering. Practical actions like teaching English to children in mountainous provinces such as An Giang and Bình Phước have helped Nam spread empathy and love.

Choosing VinUni as one of the destinations on the path to realizing his dream, Nam believes that “The VinUni scholarship will be a springboard for me to pursue my ambitions and future plans. The dynamic and diverse environment at VinUni will provide me with opportunities to interact, connect, and enhance practical experiences in social projects. Especially, this is where I can freely explore and pursue my passions in engineering and science.”

With sharp thinking, creative problem-solving skills, and a desire to contribute to improving the lives of Vietnamese people, Nam has successfully won the Scholarship from the College of Engineering and Computer Science VinUni
