THE OPPORTUNITY

We are seeking a candidate for the role of Education Specialist of the Medical Doctor (MD) program within the College of Health Sciences (CHS). In this role, the staff will be responsible for developing and ensuring the quality of curriculum and assessment in our MD Program. This individual will be instrumental in crafting, implementing, and refining the curriculum and assessment to ensure it meets the highest standards of quality. The education specialist  for the MD program will report to the Program Director (PD) and will work closely with and support the PD with ongoing development and realization of the vision and goals of the MD Program. In addition, the education specialist, when requested, will work with other leaders and colleagues across the university to pursue shared goals. This role is expected to be 1.0 FTE.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Curriculum Development and Assessment:

  • Developing curriculum frameworks that align with accreditation standards and best practices in medical education.
  • Keeping abreast of developments in medical education, leading the implementation of curriculum enhancements and updates to ensure relevance and effectiveness.
  • Collaborating with faculty and stakeholders to identify learning objectives, competencies, and assessment strategies.
  • Evaluating curriculum outcomes to drive continuous improvement and meet program goals.
  • Managing curriculum documentation, including course materials, syllabi, and assessment tools.
  • Serving as a resource for faculty development initiatives related to curriculum design, assessment, and pedagogy.

2. Evaluation:

  • Taking a leadership role in shaping the content and delivery methods of the courses to align with program objectives and standards.
  • Developing and refining curriculum materials, assessments, and teaching methodologies.
  • Fostering a positive learning environment that promotes student engagement, critical thinking, and professional development.
  • Maintaining professional competence through continuing education.

3. Accreditation and Services:

  • Ensure that the MD program meets all accreditation standards and requirements.
  • Representing the program in accreditation processes and responding to accreditation requirements related to curriculum design and evaluation.
  • Prepare and submit reports to accrediting bodies and other regulatory agencies as needed.
  • Serve on different science/educational and professional committees of MD Program or College of Health Sciences or VinUniversity as assigned.
  • Collaborating with relevant stakeholders to determine the financial resources needed for curriculum development, instructional materials, staff training, and other related expenses.
  • Maintaining relationships with hospital administrators, clinical educators, and adjunct faculty to foster ongoing collaboration and support.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Medical Doctor (MD) or Bachelor in Medicine, Bachelor in Surgery (MBBS, MBChB) is preferred or equivalent degree is required.
  • Masters degree is preferred especially in Medical Education or Health Professions Education.
  • Strong track record in education program development and implementation with international standards and accreditation.
  • Experience in curriculum development, assessment, and evaluation leadership roles.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret data sets.
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills in an academic setting.
  • Verbal communication skills in Vietnamese is a plus.
  • Experience in coaching/mentoring educators.
  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary and collaborative educational team environment.
  • At least three years’ successful experience in progressively responsible educational, and administrative leadership positions in a university setting.
  • Experience with accreditation (e.g. WFME, ACGME, ACGME-I, LCME, etc.) and ranking systems such as QS is preferred.
  • Experience in strategic planning, fiscal management, resource allocation, and personnel supervision.
  • An appreciative understanding of the challenges that inevitably arise from the operation of a new University, with the patience, resilience, and ability to work collaboratively with diverse constituents of an institution to effectively resolve challenges and build opportunities to promote the mission and vision of the College/University.

ENGLISH PROFICIENCY

English is the language of teaching and communication at VinUniversity. For this role, the candidate needs to have an excellent written and verbal communication skill in English.
