VinUniversity Co-Hosts the International Forum Franconomics 2024: Renewable Energy – Scenarios for a Green Future

The International Forum Franconomics 2024, themed “Renewable Energy – Scenario for a Green Future,” successfully took place on October 16 at the VinUni campus, attracting the participation of numerous experts, scholars, businesses, and international organizations within the Francophone network. The event focused on discussing renewable energy solutions to develop sustainable scenarios for the future, serving not only as a platform for sharing the latest research but also as an opportunity to enhance cooperation among nations in the fight against climate change.

As a co-organizer of the event, Center for Environmental Intelligence at VinUni has reaffirmed its strong commitment to supporting Vietnam in achieving its goal of net-zero emissions by 2050. This not only emphasizes the university’s role in the field of environmental science but also showcases its efforts to lead in sustainable technology initiatives.

The event was honored to welcome numerous distinguished guests, including the special presence of His Excellency Mr. Olivier Brochet, the French Ambassador to Vietnam, along with influential figures such as Mr. Pierre Du Ville, General Delegate Wallonia-Brussels in Vietnam; Mr. Hervé Conan. Mr. Hervé Conan Director, French Agency for Development (AFD) Vietnam; Assoc. Prof. Dao Thanh Truong, Vice President of Vietnam National University, Hanoi. The participation of these high-ranking leaders affirmed the Forum’s importance in shaping policies and directions for the region’s energy future.

Throughout the event, various discussions took place around topics such as energy policy, energy security, and the trends in transitioning to renewable energy. Prof. Laurent El Ghaoui, Vice Provost for Research & Innovation, presented on VinUni’s Center for Environmental Intelligence’s projects and the green transformation and green growth programs. Mr. David Falcon Adasme, Director of Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) at VinFast, also shared the commitment to promoting green transition within VinGroup. Actively contributing to the forum, VinUni faculty took on leading roles in a panel discussion on green tourism.

Additionally, the second session focused on the theme “Renewable Energy in Tourism, Eco-Tourism Trends, and Sustainable Travel”. Notably, Dr. Phi Thi Linh Giang from VinUni participated in the discussion panel, contributing insightful opinions on the application of green energy in the tourism industry.

Not just an academic forum, Franconomics 2024 was also an intellectual playground for the younger generation through the ÉCOJEUNES 2024 competition – Youth Committed to a Green Future. The outstanding student team from VinUni’s College of Engineering & Computer Science and College of Business & Management won an impressive victory with their project designing a nano Triboelectric Generator (TENG) from recycled materials, opening up a new direction for harvesting energy from human motion.

The Franconomics 2024 forum created numerous opportunities for extensive international cooperation, establishing a platform for academic and industry partners to connect with the research community in Vietnam. Collaboration between VinUniversity and partners from government, non-governmental organizations, and businesses will enhance the link between research and practice, promoting the rapid development of green technologies. The event also served as a valuable opportunity for students and researchers to engage with leading experts in the field of renewable energy, thereby developing capacities for the younger generation to better prepare for future environmental challenges.
