The General Manager of JW Marriott Hanoi, Chairman of the Vietnam and Cambodia Marriott Int. Hotels Business Council Opened up on the Most Effective Marketing Approach

As part of the Industry Speaker Series – where industry leaders, managers, and experts are invited to share their experiences with VinUniversity students, Mr. Mark Van Der Wielen – General Manager of JW Marriott had recently met with with VinUniversity students of College of Business and Management to share about the critical importance of branding and effective marketing “secrets”. “JW Marriott has transformed a lot as to carter to today’s constantly evolving world, is there any value that JW Marriott has been striving to uphold regardless?” – Answering this question from VinUniversity students, Mr. Wielen with 20-years experience at Marriott International revealed that their core value has always been Culture.

JW Marriott’s secret to its strong growth into a vigorous network of restaurants and hotels around the world today is its strongly promoted corporate culture. This is the reason why JW Marriott emphasizes on training its people to understand the corporation’s culture, professional manners and operational workflows. It is in each corporate members’ mind that this business is not about selling food or room service, instead, the focus is the customer experience. Creating great experiences, comfortable moments for customers is the most effective marketing approach.

In addition, during the session, Mr. Mark Van Der Wielen also shared 3 key success-driving factors in the hotel management industry. To win over customers in the field of hospitality services, students need to gain more practical experience, train for patience and always be ready to move. “Dream big, make yourself a dream and tell yourself if you like to work in the hospitality industry, then let the sky be the limit. There’s a lot of opportunities.” Listening to Mr. Wielen’s sharing at the Industry Speaker Series, VinUniversity students gained valuable experiences and strengthened their determination and confidence in their major of Hospitality Management.

 As the talk draws to a close, to support and ignite the young generation’s ambitions and goals, Mr. Wielen agreed to become an advisor for the “Youth Hospitality Association” – an association founded by VinUniversity students with the aim of connecting Hospitality Management students worldwide.

 JW Marriott is one of the world’s largest 5-star hotel chains with 30 brands and 7,624 accommodation facilities. Besides his role as General Manager of Hanoi, Mr. Mark Van Der Wielen currently holds the position of Chairman of the Vietnam and Cambodia Marriott Int. hotels Business Council, responsible for sales initiatives, community engagement, as well as training and developing the hotel chains.
