Annual Student Events
1. WEEK OF WELCOME
Orientation week for VinUni’s first-year students commences after a two-day ‘Move-in Day’ into the dormitory.
Embracing the model of learning, living, and working together, new students have the chance to gain insights from professors and lecturers about both academic and daily life, as well as learning from their peers. This environment fosters independence within a multicultural and multi-regional setting.
The week is packed with various activities designed to familiarize first-year students with the core values of VinUni. These include the College Readiness workshop, E.X.C.E.L, team-building activities, exhibitions, club days, and College Day, where students meet and hear from the university’s Board of Directors on the very first day. This provides new students with added energy and enthusiasm for their upcoming journey.
Additionally, students receive detailed guidance from a team of technical experts on using specialized software systems and learn about the university’s specific yet empathetic assessment and grading methods, which include GPA and AACC criteria.
The week culminates with a crucial meeting between students and their advisors, who hail from diverse countries and educational backgrounds but share the common mission of supporting and listening to students on any matter related to their academic and general university activities.
2. CLUB FAIR
For new students at VinUni, integrating into the new learning and working environment involves eagerly anticipating involvement in various clubs. With over 30 clubs active in diverse fields such as Sports, Academics, Culture & Arts, Special Interests, and student-led community activities, there’s something for everyone. Joining these clubs or associations is an excellent way to stimulate your mind, learn new things, develop leadership skills, and form friendships with those who share similar interests.
Club Day, a highlight of the orientation week, is especially popular among first-year students. It is an event meticulously prepared by upperclassmen to welcome new members, the next generation of potential club leaders. This day serves as a vibrant platform for new students to explore and join the dynamic club community at VinUni.
3. GREEN SPORTS DAY
First held in 2021, the Green Sports Day has quickly become VinUni’s most significant and eagerly awaited annual event. Its aim extends beyond promoting active participation in sports and advocating for a healthy, green lifestyle. It also serves as a platform for community engagement among students, lecturers, and staff, and fosters interaction with other educational institutions in Hanoi, such as RMIT University, Swinburne Vietnam, and Vinschool.
In addition to traditional sports like football, badminton, basketball, and table tennis, the organizing committee annually introduces new sports and competitions to appeal to a broader range of participants. Exciting team activities include tug of war, water polo, Zumba, shuttlecock, relay running, tennis, volleyball, and electronic sports (console games), offering novel and enjoyable experiences. Nearly all events are student-led, with VinUni’s club members overseeing everything from competition rules and training plans to equipment preparation and officiating.
Winners in each category not only receive medals but are also invited to plant a tree on campus, complete with a personalized name tag, contributing to the university’s green landscape. Additionally, participants can exchange books for trees, enhancing both the intellectual and environmental richness of their work or study spaces.
Student-led Events
1. SPRING FESTIVAL & MUSICAL SHOW
The Musical Show, first organized at VinUniversity in 2021, saw the enthusiastic participation of students and numerous staff members. During the holiday season, VinUniversity celebrates with the unique Winter Festival.
Inspired by the Harry Potter novels, we created ‘Vinwarts’ – a magical university embracing the core values of Diversity & Inclusion.
As a part of the OASIS course, the Winter Festival allows students to display the rich culture of VinUniversity, characterized by diversity, tolerance, solidarity, and cooperation. The event was unforgettable, with performances by Vin-A-House Dance Crew, VinUni Harmony, and others, showcasing #Diversity and #Inclusion in a highly creative manner. It was a harmonious blend of 60 different voices!
Now in its third year and known as the Spring Festival, this event has expanded in content and structure. It continues to reflect VinUni’s fundamental principles, giving students the opportunity to express their individuality and talents while fostering the communal spirit of VinUnians.
