PERSONAL DATA PRIVACY POLICY

The VinUniversity’s Department of Student Admissions is committed to safeguarding the privacy of applicants and their parents or caretakers. This Personal Data Privacy Policy (“the Policy”) describes our policies on the collection, use, and disclosure of information about you. When you submit your application to us, provide us with information, or use our websites and other services, you consent to our collection, use, and disclosure of that information as described in this Policy.

University Use of Information

VinUni Department of Student Admissions will use information that you provide to us and information we collect about you to administer your application. In addition, we may use your information to analyze and improve our admissions process, outreach efforts, and other University processes and functions. We also might use your information to conduct general research and/or share it internally with other University offices and departments. For example, we may share your information with the College, Career Center, Center of Excellence, or others for administrative purposes or in order to provide services to you.

Online Payments

We may collect credit card information from you for your deposit and/or tuition payment. A reputable third-party bank handles our credit card transactions.

Whenever you transmit credit card information through our site, all numbers and letters are scrambled using encryption technology to protect the information from being stolen or intercepted. To protect your security, we do not allow you to store your credit card number from session to session.

Cookies

Our website uses a built-in feature of your browser to set a “cookie.” Your name, and other personal or biographical information, is not shared. Unless you explicitly provide this information, we will not be aware of your identity. The cookies set can be classified as “performance cookies”—used to improve the speed, functionality, and usability for site visitors. Browsers give you the ability to reject specific cookies, or all cookies, if you choose. However, rejecting cookies may impact your ability to use certain features of the the site.

Third Parties

We may disclose your information to third parties as follows:

Consent. We may disclose your information to third parties if we have your consent to do so.

Parents and Caretakers. In some cases, we may share your information with a parent or guardian if necessary to properly complete the admissions process, scholarship & financial aids review or in the event of an emergency.

Service Providers. We may use third parties to support our operations. In such cases, we may share your information with such third parties.

University Counselors and Administrators. We may use your information and share it with your university counselors and administrators.

University Affiliated Programs. We may share your information with third parties that are affiliated with the University for the purpose of contacting you about goods, services, or experiences that may be of interest to you.

Research and Studies. We may share your information with third parties that study admissions or other topics related to higher education. We may also share your information with third parties that conduct research or develop products or services designed to improve admissions and other higher education functions.

Required by Law. We may share your information with third parties to the extent we are required to do so by law or court order.

Emergency Circumstances. We may share your information with third parties if, in our sole judgment, such disclosure is necessary to protect the health, safety, or property of any person.

De-Identified and Aggregate Information. We may use and disclose information about our applicants in de-identified or aggregate form without limitation.

Security

You must have a secure browser—one that supports secure transmission of data across the Internet—to apply online to VinUni. We seek to implement appropriate security measures to protect your information when you transmit it to us and when we store it on our systems. Unfortunately, no data transmission or storage can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. When you send us credit card information over the Internet, we use industry standard SSL (secure socket layer) encryption. Your password is protected so that only you can access it and view the information that you provide to us through the online applicants’ site.  We strongly advise you not to share your password with anyone.

Updates to this Policy

We may update or change this policy at any time. Your continued use of this site after any such change indicates your acceptance of such changes.

FAQ ABOUT PERSONAL DATA PRIVACY

  1. What personal information does VinUniversity collect?

VinUniversity collects various information from applicants, recommenders, and educational institutions. This information is collected when you register for VinUniversity application; complete an online form, including any application forms; provide letters of recommendation; and interact with us for other purposes.

If you are a student applicant, certain personal information is collected from you when you complete your “profile” as part of the registration and application process, provide this information to us through the completion of an on-line User Registration form, and/or or voluntarily complete the application, any application supplements, or other applicant forms.  This information includes your name, home and mailing address, email address, telephone number, citizenship, date and place of birth, information about your parents or caretakers, your references, income and payment information, and ID number. VinUniversity also collects the username and password you create during registration.

If you are a student applicant we may collect personal information about you from recommenders and educational institutions you have attended, including information about your academic achievements and performance, impressions of you and any other information they choose to provide us to support your application(s).

If you are a parent or legal guardian, we may collect personal information about you from the applicant, including your name, relationship with the applicant, address, telephone numbers and/or email address, household income, ability to pay for education.

  1. How does VinUniversity use your personal information?

VinUniversity uses the information it collects about applicants for various purposes, including to process your application; to communicate with you; and for research and statistical uses.

We may use the information we collect from applicants for any lawful basis, including in the following ways:

* To process your application(s), which require the information to assess your suitability for admission, communicate with you about your application, meet institutional reporting requirements and obligations to safeguard students. If you do not provide the information we require, we will be unable to process your application.

* To allow us to communicate with you when necessary. For example, to provide you with technical support, answer your questions about the admission application and provide you with updates on the progress of your application, including by reminding you of upcoming deadlines.

* To send you push notifications from time to time in order to update you about the admission application process.

* To allow you to pay fees required for your application to be processed, by linking you to a reputable third-party bank’s web site which collects your payment-related information.

* To create anonymized, aggregate data that we and our partners can use solely for research and statistical use.

  1. How does VinUniversity use parent/legal guardian’s information?

We may communicate with you when in need of your consent to the applicant’s attendance at VinUniversity.

  1. What is VinUni policy on allowing you to access, update, or correct your personal information?

VinUni offers you the ability to access, update, and correct the information VinUni holds about you.

You may access and edit your registration information by using your Login credentials. If you have forgotten your password, please click the “Forgot Password?” link at apply.vinuni.edu.vn to have password reset instructions emailed to you. For all other problems signing in, please contact us.

VinUniversity allows you to make revisions to your personal information in certain cases. For any information that was erroneously provided by the applicant but was already submitted and can no longer be changed or re-submitted, you must contact the University directly to alert them to the erroneous information.

You may also update your email address and cell phone number within your on-line account.

VinUniversity keeps your personal information for as long as it is necessary. When determining how long to retain your personal information, our considerations include our legal obligations and other mandatory record keeping requirements and the likelihood of you needing access to the personal information we hold for purposes related to your previous application and admission to the university.
