Acting Program Director, Multimedia Communications Program
Biography
Dr. David Guimond earned his B.S.Sc. (1996) and M.A. (1998) in Criminology from the University of Ottawa, Canada. He completed his Ph.D. in Communications at McGill University in Montreal, Canada, in 2007, and obtained a Graduate Certificate in Creative Fiction from Humber College in Toronto, Canada, in 2013.
Dr. Guimond was a Rhodes Scholarship finalist, a recipient of the Social Science and Humanities Research Council Scholarship (Government of Canada), a two-time Ontario Graduate Scholarship awardee, and the recipient of both the University of Ottawa Gold Medal and the Frank Blum Memorial Excellence Award.
With a career spanning academia, government, the arts, and private sectors, Dr. Guimond brings over 25 years of experience in multimedia communications, creative marketing, digital media production, and storytelling.
In addition to lecturing at McGill University, Dr. Guimond has held leadership roles at global firms such as Deloitte Digital and led creative and strategy teams for major digital media publishers, driving projects that engaged millions worldwide and amassing billions of views on platforms like YouTube and Facebook.
During his tenures as a freelance writer and copywriter, Dr. Guimond researched, crafted, and published a wide range of multimedia communications—from microcopy and B2B content to short-form video scripts and industry whitepapers—collaborating with global brands such as Salesforce, Taschen, Genesys, and Goalcast. His writing spans industries including technology, finance, health, telecommunications, and the arts, addressing topics as diverse as digital transformation, pop culture, cybersecurity, SaaS, and product design, among many others.
Dr. Guimond also sometimes writes novels and short stories that remain woefully underbaked and stubbornly unpublished, collecting dust on his hard drive.
