From May 11–15, the VinUniversity community gathered for the fifth annual IGNITE Week, a dedicated celebration of educational innovation and teaching excellence. Organized by the Center for Education Management (CEM), the week-long forum brought together faculty, staff, teaching assistants, students, and university leadership to exchange ideas, open their classrooms, and explore future-ready pedagogical approaches. Grounded in the philosophy that shared innovation elevates the entire academic community, IGNITE Week 2026 focused on AI integration, active learning, and cross-functional collaboration.
Open Classroom Week: Pedagogical Theory in Practice
A central highlight of the week was the Open Classroom, which saw 16 faculty members open their doors to peers and visitors. This initiative provided a transparent look into diverse, highly engaging instructional methods across disciplines.
Participants observed active learning firsthand: from anatomy labs utilizing virtual dissection tables and counseling role-plays to team-based learning sessions and seminars where students critically analyzed the societal impact of AI. By opening these spaces, faculty stimulated genuine dialogue regarding student engagement and the practical application of educational technology.
AI Design Sprint & Poster Showcase: Moving from Adoption to Creation
Shifting the paradigm from merely consuming technology to actively building it, VinUni hosted its first AI Design Sprint. The half-day hackathon challenged cross-functional teams to develop working prototypes using no-code AI tools to address immediate educational and operational needs.
The sprint operated across two tracks: Teaching & Learning Innovation and Operational Excellence. Prototype solutions included an AI platform matching real-world enterprise challenges with relevant VinUni courses and capstone projects, an internal tool designed to map and connect potential research collaborators within the university, and a sustainability education policy simulator. Winning teams received grants to further scale their prototypes.

Parallel to the sprint, the AI in Action Poster Showcase displayed student and faculty research on how artificial intelligence is reshaping productivity, pedagogy, and research ethics.
“AI no longer feels like something educators just have to ‘cope with,’ but something we can innovate with in a way that is grounded in sound educational methodology and still allows us to preserve and nurture human connections and judgment,” noted Dr. Nguyen Phuong Tu.
SparkPlug and Pizzagogy: Showcasing Rapid Innovation
The week also highlighted actionable research and peer-to-peer knowledge sharing through condensed presentation formats:
- SparkPlug Presentations: Eleven fast-paced sessions focused on personal and academic resilience, integrating performing arts into student communication, utilizing serious games in medical education, and fostering student leadership.

- Pizzagogy (Teaching Innovation Grant Showcases): Past TIG recipients presented the measurable outcomes of their funded projects. These rapid-cycle innovations included an “AI Knowledge Cloud” designed to help faculty audit new educational technology tools, student-led digital marketing campaigns executed for local small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and dedicated AI-powered student learning assistants.
Fostering Academic Synergy and Community
Beyond technical and pedagogical updates, the week served as a vital mechanism for institutional cohesion and multidisciplinary alignment.
“To me, IGNITE Week has always been a chance for VinUni to break down silos and truly feel like one academic family,” reflected Mr. Nhu Dinh Ngoc Anh. “I feel inspired to openly exchange ideas and experiences, see ourselves and others test out bold initiatives, and to see that my own pedagogy has become much more refined and stronger through multidisciplinary peer feedback.”
By fostering an environment of passion, creativity, and intellectual openness, IGNITE Week 2026 reinforced VinUniversity’s commitment to building learning-centered, future-ready educational experiences. A sincere thank you goes to the presenters, classroom hosts, poster contributors, organizers, and volunteers who collectively continue to ignite innovative pathways for developing future talent.
