GIAP VU NAM DUONG: THE MORE UNCONVENTIONAL EXPERIENCES YOU HAVE, THE BETTER STORIES YOU CAN TELL

July 24, 2024

In life, some people go straight. Others take a detour. But Giap Vu Nam Duong (Vicky), a senior CBM student and proud WeChoice Awards nominee, chose to explore her college life like a funnel, demonstrating how trying new things can bring both fun and great rewards.

“Before I went to VinUni, I didn’t know what I really wanted to do, so I approached it like a funnel: I tried a lot of things in the beginning and gradually got stuck with things I actually like—storytelling.”

Upon reflection, Vicky’s approach seems justified. Her years at VinUni were filled with new experiences, from building VinUni’s first-ever student newspaper, VinMagazine, and being an MC for various events, to hosting VTV’s Z-Life and creating content as a rising influencer. All these experiences helped Vicky realize the importance of taking complex concepts and turning them into easy, everyday stories that everyone can enjoy. However, like a funnel, the pressure one faces to reach the other end is significant, and that’s when the spirit of VinUni proves invaluable.

“My father often said, ‘Education can be found everywhere nowadays. You can literally take an online class from Harvard. But VinUni is not only a university; it is also a startup.’ When you keep hearing those miraculous Zero to One stories from Vingroup and your peers, you get filled with a sense of audacity and bravery.”

That audacity transformed her funnel into a visionary telescope. Even before graduation, Vicky is challenging herself at a storytelling startup based in the U.S., where she is inspired to help creators turn stories into high-quality multimedia production.

Yet, before reaching the end of that funnel, Vicky is ready to explore more.

“Don’t wait until you achieve something to start experiencing life. Experience life beyond what is provided. Learn how people see life, and you’ll discover many different paths to success and happiness. The more unconventional experiences you have, the better stories you can tell.”
