VinUniversity CMIT and the growing role of Vietnamese Scientists in Global Research Communities

May 27, 2026

As science becomes increasingly interconnected, universities are no longer defined only by the number of papers they publish, but also by how actively they contribute to the global research ecosystem – through collaboration, peer review, editorial leadership, and the shaping of scientific dialogue.

At VinUniversity’s Center for Materials Innovation and Technology (CMIT), this growing international engagement is becoming increasingly visible.

Today, five CMIT faculty members are serving as Editors, Editorial Board Members, or scientific advisors for leading international journals in materials science, nanotechnology, advanced engineering, and applied physics – an uncommon concentration even among many established materials research centers in the region.

Their appointments reflect not only academic accomplishment, but also international recognition and trust within the global scientific community.

Among them are researchers working across some of today’s most strategically important scientific fields – from semiconductors and nanomaterials to sustainable energy systems, smart manufacturing, and advanced functional materials.

Together, they represent a new generation of globally connected scientists contributing to both frontier research and the development of Vietnam’s emerging research ecosystem.

Editorial leadership in science carries responsibilities beyond publishing. Editors help evaluate research quality, guide peer review, identify emerging scientific directions, and support the integrity of international academic standards. Their work influences not only individual journals, but also the evolution of research conversations across disciplines.

For a young research center in Vietnam, the presence of multiple faculty members serving in such international editorial capacities is particularly meaningful. It signals the increasing integration of Vietnamese scientists into global knowledge networks and reflects the broader rise of Vietnam in advanced scientific and technological research.

This momentum is also reflected in CMIT’s broader ecosystem-building efforts.

In June 2026, VinUniversity will host the first International Conference on Materials Innovation and Technology (ICMIT2026), bringing together leading scientists, journal editors, industry experts, and global collaborators in areas such as advanced materials, semiconductors, nanotechnology, and sustainable energy technologies.

The conference will feature internationally recognized scholars from leading institutions worldwide, alongside distinguished scientific editors and industry leaders working at the frontier of materials innovation and industrial applications.

More importantly, these initiatives reflect a broader vision for research at VinUniversity: building an environment where Vietnam is not only participating in global science but increasingly contributing to conversations that shape the future of technology, sustainability, and innovation.

As VinUniversity continues its journey toward becoming a globally recognized research university, CMIT offers a glimpse into how research excellence is built – not only through publications and infrastructure, but through meaningful participation in the worldwide scientific community.
