Biography

Daniel Ruelle is the Director of the Teaching and Learning Excellence Center (TLEC) where he leads pedagogical innovation at VinUniversity and supports a diverse and talented group of faculty, teaching assistants, and staff to realize VinUniversity’s mission of active and experiential learning, inclusivity, academic integrity, and technology-enhanced learning. In parallel, Daniel teaches courses across many areas in the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), including academic writing, data visualization, English for Academic Purposes, English for Specific Purposes, and communication subjects. His qualifications include a Master of Project Management with Distinction, International Diploma of Language Teaching Management, and Project Management Professional (PMP) certificate. In addition to teaching and learning activities, he has managed pre-sessional and in-sessional academic English programs at the tertiary level, including previously working as the founding Program Director of the English and Communication program at VinUniversity. Daniel’s teaching philosophy is one that blends technology with face-to-face lessons in principled ways, including the ethical and responsible use of generative AI. He believes in the potential of principled and valid assessment activities, both formative and summative, when combined with rich, personalized, and actionable feedback. Daniel has several academic interests, including eye tracking, language assessment, statistical analysis using Rasch Measurement Theory, vocabulary acquisition (including spaced repetition and corpus linguistics), generative AI, and other areas. He has presented at several international conferences including the prestigious IATEFL conference in the UK and the Team Based Learning Collaborative in the USA. He has appeared on VTV7 television programs 8IELTS and IELTS Face-Off as an invited expert.
