NASEM appointed VinUni’s faculty to serve as a member of the Workshop Committee for Innovation in Neuroscience Research in Southeast Asia

The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) appointed Assistant Professor Pham Huy Hieu, Ph.D. from VinUniversity, serves as a member of the Workshop Committee for Engaging Scientists in Shared Responsible Innovation in Neuroscience in Southeast Asia, NASEM.

Dr. Pham Huy Hieu is an Assistant Professor  at the College of Engineering and Computer Science (CECS), VinUniversity, and a Research Fellow cum Associate Director at VinUni-Illinois Smart Health Center. He  has been selected as a member of the Workshop Committee for Engaging Scientists in Shared Responsible Innovation in Neuroscience in Southeast Asia.  

Dr. Pham Huy Hieu is an Assistant Professor  at the College of Engineering and Computer Science (CECS), cum Associate Director at VinUni-Illinois Smart Health Center, VinUniversity

He will join and contribute efforts with a group of international scientists, specifically from the U.S., Malaysia, Vietnam, and other regions, to develop the agenda, invite potential participants, particularly the research community in Vietnam, and moderate workshop activities. With his expertise in computer science and medical imaging, Dr. Pham would provide a unique perspective, as one of the emerging areas of neuroscience is the convergence of computational and imaging approaches. 

The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) will convene an ad hoc planning committee of international scientists to develop a workshop to discuss practices for anticipating and countering malicious exploitation and accidental harmful use of current and future research in neuroscience.  

The committee which are 11 members, will engage early-career and established researchers of diverse genders, nationalities, and disciplines to engage in discussions that integrate core concepts of safety and security with current research activities and trends. The workshop will be informed by a bibliometric analysis of current research ongoing in Southeast Asia in neuroscience.
