On 11th and 12th July 2022, VinUniversity collaborated with the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) to organize the Smart Health workshops to share and discuss the latest research on Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Biotechnology, Biosensor and their application in smart healthcare.

Researchers and scholars from UIUC, VinUniversity, and other institutes presented 18 research, 4 of which are underway and funded by the VinUni – Illinois Smart Health Center (VISHC), including Wastewater-Based Epidemiology for Pathogen and Microbial Genomic Surveillance; Nano Biosensors Examples and Future of Diagnostics; Building decentralized machine learning platforms, etc.

Researchers participating in the workshops include Prof. Rashid Bashir – Dean of the Grainger College of Engineering, Grainger Distinguished Chair in Engineering at UIUC; Prof Thanh H. (Helen) Nguyen – Ivan Racheff Professor of Environmental Engineering in CEE, UIUC; Prof. Pranee Liamputtong – Top 0.35% of the world’s most cited researchers in the field of Public Health and Top 0.25% in the field of Nursing, etc.

“The presentations we heard today about the work that is going on show that this is impactful research. I believe the PhD students associated with these projects will get valuable experience under the guidance of professors from both institutions”, shared Prof. Philippe H Geubelle, Executive Associate Dean, Grainger College of Engineering, UIUC at the workshop.

Recently, VinUniversity and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) announced the opening of the VinUni-Illinois Smart Health Center (VISHC), which will focus on interdisciplinary research in biotechnology and data science. VISHC was officially given 13,5 million USD in funding from Vingroup to develop affordable and accessible projects that can positively impact people’s health.
