VinUniversity Launches V-BENCH – An AI Capability Benchmark Tailored For Vietnamese

July 6, 2026

Hanoi, July 6, 2026 – The AI Research Center at VinUniversity officially introduces V-Bench, a non-profit toolkit developed to serve the community and foster the development of responsible AI in Vietnam. Powered by an intensive dataset of over 40,000 questions and tasks validated by a prestigious council of domestic and international experts, V-Bench comprehensively evaluates the Vietnamese language capabilities of Large Language Models (LLMs). This provides an objective, independent reference system to serve as a foundation for practical AI implementation.

Initiated by the AI Research Center at VinUniversity, with the entirely non-profit collaboration of a scientific council comprising 18 leading Vietnamese AI experts from both Vietnam and abroad, V-Bench is currently one of the most comprehensive tools for measuring the Vietnamese language processing capabilities of LLMs. Going beyond mere academic knowledge, V-Bench’s dataset of over 40,000 questions and tasks is built with both breadth and depth, covering multiple fields and fully reflecting elements of culture, language, sovereignty, information security, and local nuances.

V-Bench categorizes its toolkit into 2 major categories with 5 specialized evaluation groups, including:

  • Implicit Culture: Evaluates the ability to understand deep cultural nuances embedded within the Vietnamese language, such as customs, beliefs, and history.
  • Regional Diversity: Tests the comprehension of Northern, Central, and Southern dialects, as well as region-specific pronouns and writing styles.
  • Digital Sovereignty and Safety: Ensures compliance with national information security principles, combats misinformation, and protects Vietnam’s digital sovereignty.
  • Practical Application: Assesses performance in education, public healthcare, and specific application fields in Vietnam.
  • Agentic AI Capabilities: Evaluates planning, tool usage, RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation), and autonomous action capabilities within the Vietnamese environment.

As a result, V-Bench does not just measure the ability to answer academic questions; it also evaluates AI’s cultural understanding, regional language grasp, and actionable capabilities within the Vietnamese context. This yields objective, comprehensive, and highly practical results with great reference and guiding value for the community. Notably, V-Bench’s evaluation results are backed by a prestigious expert council, rigorous methodology, and the most massive, scientific, and meticulously crafted dataset available today.

Built using techniques aligned with common practices in global LLM research, V-Bench features high compatibility in terminology and processes with the international benchmark ecosystem. This allows global LLM developers to participate in the evaluation without encountering technical convention barriers.

Prof. Dr. Duong Nguyen Vu – Vice Provost and Scientific Director of the AI Research Center at VinUniversity, stated: “With a comprehensive dataset and the entirely objective, non-profit contributions from a prestigious community of Vietnamese experts worldwide, V-Bench aims to redefine AI standards in Vietnam and build a national AI reference system. V-Bench’s evaluation results will provide a panoramic view, helping organizations and businesses discover the depth of each AI model’s capabilities, thereby selecting the optimal model for their specific use cases and practical needs.”

Available free of charge at https://vbench.ai/, V-Bench has currently evaluated and published reference results for 15 prominent LLMs. In the coming period, V-Bench will continue to be developed to incorporate new evaluation criteria based on images and audio, such as: Chữ Nôm (ancient Vietnamese ideographic script), regional signage, charts, cultural heritage, recognition and comprehension of the three main regional accents, understanding cultural contexts through short videos, and understanding long Vietnamese documents exceeding 100,000 tokens (such as laws, contracts, textbooks, and precise citations from regulatory texts and official gazettes).

As one of the flagship AI research projects of the AI Research Center at VinUniversity, V-Bench is a testament to VinUniversity’s aspiration to make a breakthrough and elevate the status of Vietnamese intellect on the global academic map. At the same time, it reaffirms Vingroup’s pioneering mission, spirit of community dedication, and service to science.
