Kick-Starting the Study Away Program: A Visit from Cornell Students

July 22, 2020

Last week, Cornell students, largely composed of members of Vietnamese community at Cornell, visited VinUni campus and were received by the Founding Provost, Professor Rohit Verma. This trip is in regard to the newly agreed Study Away program between Cornell and VinUni.

Recognizing the efforts of Vietnam in battling the COVID-19 pandemic, Cornell selected VinUni to host Cornell students with residential and campus life in Hanoi, under the Study Away program. At VinUni, Cornell students can comfortably enjoy facilities, experience a fully-immersive student life, and culturally blending-in with plenty of student activities in collaboration with VinUni talented students, right in the heart of the modern Vinhomes Ocean Park area.

While at VinUni, the visiting students will continue to take online courses from their Cornell faculty. In addition, VinUni will create a special Vietnam Immersion course to provide them with in-depth information about the local culture, business, and society. Simultaneously, VinUni is preparing its incoming inaugural cohort with unique First-Year Experience Program, spanning from Orientation to Intercultural Competency and Self-Exploration, so that they will be able to help Cornell Study-Away students and grow together. Both parties look very forward to this win-win situation. In the spirit of this program, visiting Cornell students enthusiastically commented:

– “…impressed with how detail-oriented the entire campus was (Van Giang)
– “… library is equipped with various types of spaces to form learning spaces … architecture, ceiling decorations … inspired students to learn.” (Hoang Minh)
– “I really enjoyed the meal at the canteen. It was delicious, balanced, and felt like home.” (Viet Ha)
– “…shocked at how beautiful and elaborated the campus was … are on par, if not better, than what we have at Cornell” (Kieu Anh)
– “I really like the team-based learning room and the way VinUni team innovates the learning process for students” (Tra Giang)
– “Everyone I met was friendly and I can feel the enthusiasm from VinUni’s members. You are working hard to create the best learning environment for every student.” (Trang Tran)
