Applications are invited for a postdoctoral fellow position of one year, possibly renewable for additional years, in the College of Engineering and Computer Science (CECS) at VinUniversity. The research will focus on developing and analyzing novel algorithms in safe and secure machine learning, especially on Large Language Models (LLMs), Vision-Language Models, and agent-based environments. Topics of interest include—but are not limited to—pre-training strategies, fine-tuning techniques, bias and fairness, interpretability, adversarial robustness, and alignment in AI systems, with potential applications in sustainability, farming, material discovery, and healthcare.
This position is closely co-advised by Khoa Doan (Assistant Professor, CECS) and Nitesh Chawla (Honorary Professor at VinUniversity, Frank M. Freimann Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Notre Dame, and the Founding Director of the Lucy Family Institute for Data and Society). The postdoctoral fellow will be fully funded to spend a portion of their time at the University of Notre Dame, working closely with Nitesh Chawla and other scholars at Lucy Family Institute for Data & Society.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Computer Science or a related field (e.g., informatics, engineering, robotics, statistics, mathematics…). Experience with machine learning, generative AI, and/or AI Safety is essential. The ideal candidate for these positions:
- Should have strong background in adversarial machine learning, certified robustness or interpretability, and strong experience in NLP and Machine Learning.
- Should have a track record of publishing at top international venues like AAAI, IJCAI, ACL, EMNLP, KDD, NAACL, ICML, NeurIPS, ICLR, CVPR, ECCV, ICCV, TMLR, TPAMI, etc…
- Should be interested in mentoring masters and PhDs on research projects.
- Should have a demonstrated ability to initiate new research projects and have a desire to lead a research team.
