Will you choose to give up or rise stronger after failure?

March 21, 2025

Have you ever stood in front of a major failure and asked yourself: Am I good enough? Should I keep chasing this dream?
Tran Phuc Vinh – recipient of a 75% Talent Scholarship from VinUni’s College of Business Management, once faced that choice. But instead of stepping back, he turned failure into a foundation for growth and a catalyst for pursuing his dreams.

Failure – a chance to change

From a young age, Vinh had a deep passion for economics. He was always curious about how economies operate and how they impact people’s lives. With a desire to challenge himself and sharpen his skills, he entered the Vietnam High School Business Competition, hoping it would be a stepping stone to prove his capabilities. But the outcome was not what he had hoped for. One comment from the judges stuck with him: You don’t know how to listen, you don’t have enough leadership ability.
Instead of seeing this as a defeat, Vinh took it as a lesson. Passion wasn’t enough, success requires strategy, self-awareness, and the ability to develop a broad set of skills.

Using failure as a motivation

Refusing to accept limits, Vinh set out on a new journey: developing leadership thinking, improving communication skills, learning how to plan effectively, and applying knowledge to real-world situations. He participated in the Talk Green Future competition, took on the challenge of working as a business interpreter at his family’s company, and step by step came to understand:
Economics is not just about numbers; it’s the art of understanding people, predicting behavior, and adapting to the ever-changing market.

This realization helped Vinh clarify his true goal: to become an economist who doesn’t just analyze markets, but one who can shape policies that bring lasting value to society.

A dream that deserves relentless effort

To pursue that dream, Vinh knew he needed an environment where he could grow in every dimension. He believed VinUni was where he could collaborate on real-world research projects with professors and cultivate a deeper understanding of economics beyond the classroom.

The 75% scholarship at VinUni was not just recognition of academic achievement; it was proof of resilience, the ability to learn from failure, and an unwavering desire to make a difference.
The journey ahead will undoubtedly have more challenges. But there is one truth Vinh holds onto:

Failure is not what you should fear. What’s truly frightening is never daring to begin.
