Congratulations to VinUniversity professors being in the top 2% of the world’s most cited scholars

3 professors from VinUniversity and 18 other professors on the VinUniversity Academic Advisory Board, Science Advisory Board and Scholarship Interview Board are among the top 2% most cited researchers worldwide – according to the latest publication of PLOS Biology Journal (USA) in 2020. Being in the top 2% of the world’s most cited scholars demonstrates the professors’ profound influence in scientific research. It is one of the most important criteria to assess the quality in higher education.

According to this ranking, Prof. Do Ngoc Minh, VinUniversity Vice-Provost is in the top 0.13% world’s most referenced researchers in the field of AI and Image Processing. Prof. Maurizio Trevisan, VinUniversity Dean of College of Health Sciences, is in the top 1.65% of Epidemiology. Prof. Rohit Verma, VinUniversity Provost is in the top 2% of the world with outstanding contributions in Business and Management research.

In order to obtain this statistics, Professor John P.A. Ioannidis from Stanford University (USA) and his group of researchers used Scopus data of nearly 7 million scientists worldwide from 22 scientific fields and 176 subfields.

For scientists, the citation rate affirms the value of their research – its applications are highly practical and bear fundamental guidance to later studies. Scientific research is well respected and sought after in higher education. It is one of the most important criteria to define a prestigious university with world-class status.

With the mission of training elite human capital, VinUniversity aims to create a learning environment that encourages creativity and research-intensive scientific projects for students. Research at VinUniversity is led by a team of professors and scientists who have many years of experience at world-leading universities and have already published many scientific papers.

At VinUniversity, on average, each faculty or affiliated expert gives guidance and support to 6 students. This is an ideal ratio employed by the leading universities in the world like Harvard University and University of Pennsylvania. Thanks to this structure, VinUniversity students are mentored and instructed directly and closely by world-class mentors. VinUniversity students also enjoy the opportunity to participate in scientific research under the tutelage of their advising professors, and can even actively propose research topics. Developing scientific research in both the faculty and student communities is one of the most important foundations to ensure VinUniversity’s academic quality.
