Bringing Vietnam to Cornell Students

June 30, 2020

Expanding on their strong collaboration, VinUniversity announces on July 1st, 2020, a unique program for providing a “Study Away” opportunity to Cornell students at VinUni’s new state-of-the-art facility in Hanoi, Vietnam. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many of the over 5000 international students enrolled at Cornell will not be able to return to the main campus in Ithaca, New York. Acknowledging the important role that campus life plays in an enriching student experience, VinUniversity offers to provide residential and campus life to some of these students. While at the VinUniversity campus, the visiting students will continue to take online courses from their Cornell faculty. In addition, VinUniversity will create a special Vietnam Immersion course to provide them with in-depth information about the local culture, business, and society.

Since early 2018, Cornell has been involved with every aspect of VinUniversity’s development, spanning infrastructure, governance, faculty hiring, and curriculum development. The presence of Cornell students will be an enriching experience for VinUni students as well. Both groups of students will take classes together and participate in many exciting activities from hackathons and student clubs to exclusive tours of leading Vietnamese companies and cultural attractions. The students will also work with VinUni faculty on collaborative research projects and conduct case studies about Vietnamese organizations.

“VinUniversity is honored to host students from our strategic collaborator Cornell University. This student-centric initiative showcases the true friendship and close cooperation between our universities during a time of need.”-Professor Rohit Verma, Founding Provost, VinUniversity
