Vinuniversity Cooperates with Vingroup Big Data Institute – VinBigdata

Last week, VinUniversity and Vingroup Big Data Institute – VinBigdata organized a Signing Ceremony for an Affiliate Cooperation Agreement. According to the agreement, the two organizations will cooperate to improve effectiveness in training, research, resource exchange as well as optimization the mutual resources.

In the first phase of cooperation, eight researchers of VinBigdata are invited to become affiliate faculty at VinUniversity, jointly teaching and guiding VinUniversity students. On the other hand, VinUniversity faculty will participate in research projects with high applicability of VinBigdata and jointly publish scientific works.

The signing ceremony was attended by Prof. Vu Ha Van, Scientific Director, Dr. Dao Duc Minh, Executive Director, and researchers of VinBigdata Institute. From VinUniversity, there were Dr. Le Mai Lan, Vice Chairwoman of Vingroup and President of the University Council; Prof. Rohit Verma, Provost of the University; Prof. Duong Nguyen Vu, Honorary Dean, College of Engineering and Computer Science, Prof. Maurizio Trevisan, Dean, College of Health Sciences, along with faculty members and other representatives of the university.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, leaders of VinUniversity and VinBigdata agreed to work together to develop training programs in engineering, computer science and health sciences of VinUniversity, so that it can achieve international accreditation within the planned roadmap. At the same time, to create opportunities for researching and orienting research topics for faculty and researchers from both sides and to offer internship and recruitment opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students of VinUniversity.

On this occasion, VinUniversity leaders also handed the official decision to appoint VinBigdata researchers as affiliated faculty, marking the official cooperation on human resources between the two sides.

Information about VinBigData: VinBigdata was established by Vingroup in August 2018, focusing on key fields in Data Science: Computational Biomedicine, Computer Vision, Medical Image Processing and Natural language processing. Aim of VinBigdata is to promote basic research as well as investigate novel and high-applicable technologies which can be directly utilized. VinIF Innovation Foundation of Vingroup under VinBigdata Research Institute manages annual research funding and provides students with domestic master’s and doctoral training scholarships to study at prestigious universities in Vietnam in the fields of health sciences, artificial intelligence, robotics, automation, nanotechnology, renewable energy, new generation materials … VinBigdata is also the organization implementing the selection and training Engineers of the “Human Development program in the field of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science of Vingroup” in order to contribute to developing the fundamental human force for science and technology in Vietnam.

Professor Vu Ha Van – Professor of Mathematics of Yale University (USA) has been the Scientific Director of VinBigdata since the establishment of the Institute. He was awarded the Sloan Prize (2002) and the NSF Career Award (2003) for young mathematicians in the United States; Polya Prize (2008). He is also one of the 35 scientists worldwide elected to become Fellow of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics in 2020.
