VinUni and Techcombank successfully organized “A day as a VinUnian” event

July 26, 2024

On July 20, 2024, within the framework of the Next Gen program, co-organized by VinUni and Techcombank, the event “A day as a VinUnian” was successfully held, attracting the participation of nearly 300 secondary and high school students along with their families in the Hanoi area.

Experiential activity “A day as a VinUnian” for Students

During the event, students had the opportunity to engage in a series of enriching and beneficial activities, including attending demo classes conducted by VinUni lecturers and touring the campus. True to the program’s objective of providing a “solid foundation to conquer the future”, these activities helped students gain early exposure to basic financial knowledge and essential soft skills necessary for a secure and promising future.

The event commenced with a class on “Design Thinking” led by Nguyen Thi Huong Lien, PhD., Faculty of Finance, Bachelor of Business Administration at VinUni. The lecture facilitated students’ understanding of the five-step thinking process to empathize with users, identify problems, and effectively implement ideas.

Subsequently, students applied the knowledge acquired by participating in a group challenge to design a unique hat. With outstanding presentations and creative content that met the criteria for the most unique and user-friendly hat design, two groups excelled and received gifts from the organizers. This lecture provided an essential foundation to support the students in the “Financial Innovation Challenge” – a competition within the Next Gen activities, with the final round scheduled from August 16-18 at VinPearl Nha Trang.

Following the opening class, Nguyen Thi Mai Lan (Alex), PhD., CFA, Program Director, Bachelor of Business Administration at VinUni, conducted the “Fun Investment” class. This session began with an introduction to stocks, the Vietnamese stock market, and the VNINDEX. Students then assumed the role of real investors in a stock investment game. Beyond theoretical knowledge, students practiced applying their learning through a group stock investment game involving two real-world stocks traded on the market, providing a vivid and practical experience.

Each group was allocated 20 candies as “investment capital” to decide how to distribute between the two stocks. Over two rounds, with continuously updated profit information, the groups had to flexibly adjust their portfolios to maximize profits. The session concluded with valuable insights into the relationship between risk and return, the importance of portfolio diversification, and market timing.

The event concluded with enthusiasm and excitement as students participated in a campus tour of VinUni, including visits to the VinUni scale model, library, E-Lab startup center, learning space, and Medical Simulation Center (SIM). Below are some photos capturing the event’s activities.

Career orientation workshop for parents

Simultaneously with the “A day as a VinUnian” experience for students, the organizers also held a dedicated workshop for parents. During this session, leading experts from VinUni shared valuable information about career trends, essential skills for the future, training programs, competitive advantages, and job opportunities following graduation from VinUni.

The workshop comprised two main sections:
Part 1: A discussion with experts on career trends and necessary skills for the future, and strategies to guide and support children through these changes and fluctuations, led by Ms. Nguyen Van Anh – Head of Alumni, Industry and Development Department at VinUni and Director of the Next Gen Program.

Part 2: An exchange with representatives from the leadership and faculty of The College of Business & Management and The College of Engineering & Computer Science about training programs, competitive advantages, and career opportunities after graduation from VinUni.

The event concluded successfully, leaving a positive and lasting impression on the students and parents in attendance.

Following “A day as a VinUnian” students will have the opportunity to experience “A day as a Banker” at Techcombank’s headquarters in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi on July 27, 2024, and August 3, 2024. The top 10 teams from the “Financial Innovation Challenge” Qualifying Round will also have the chance to participate in the Finals in Nha Trang from August 16-18, 2024.
