INTRODUCTION TO CRITICAL THINKING
“You Are Not So Smart” – That’s how David McRaney, a journalist and The New York Times Best Seller, raises the issue when writing about CRITICAL THINKING.
In May 2020, billionaire Elon Musk caused a massive $14 billion drop in the value of Tesla stocks with just one tweet. Hundreds of thousands of investors panicked and sold their shares because of a seemingly sarcastic remark, resulting in significant losses.
In May 2023, Geoffrey Hinton, the “godfather of artificial intelligence (AI)”, warned that: AI would destroy many existing jobs and create a world where people would struggle to tell what’s real from what’s fake.
In the age of information chaos, are we smart enough to distinguish what is real and what is fake? Are we bright enough to understand the true nature of the matter? Is our thinking sharp enough to make the right decisions in studying, working, or even leading a business or an organization?
INTRODUCTION TO CRITICAL THINKING is the course for you.
After this course, you can:
- Learn about the nature of argumentation
- Learn how to evaluate arguments, uncover hidden premises,
- Sharpen your own thinking skills.
- Understand and apply logical and critical thinking in higher education.
- Differentiate between arguments and non-arguments.
- Identify and utilize different types of arguments.
- Assess argument quality and avoid logical pitfalls.
- Explore philosophical puzzles and paradoxes related to logic and reasoning.

INTRODUCTION TO PROFESSIONALISM
“From the bitterness of disease man learns the sweetness of health.” – Joseph Addison.
In January 2022, three scientists Katalin Kariko, Drew Weissman (USA), and Pieter Cullis (Canada) were awarded the VinFuture Grand Prize valued at $3 million for their contributions to the development of the mRNA vaccine technology, which played a crucial role in humanity’s fight against COVID-19. Overcoming adversity, they acted wholeheartedly, not only as scientists but also as “Health Professionals” – experts in the medical field.
That’s why medical education is a very special field. In addition to the ability to acquire specialized knowledge, healthcare professionals, those who practice medicine, also require professionalism in countless difficult situations. They take on the roles of doctors, companions, or even leaders with exceptional analytical thinking skills, the ability to inspire, and the ability to create a positive environment for colleagues and patients.
As an important foundation for not only health and science students but students from other fields, the course INTRODUCTION TO PROFESSIONALISM will help you:
- Apply principles of learning to health professions program
- Use creative approaches to describe the role of a health professional.
- Communicate in a variety of settings.
- Develop a capacity for self-reflection and engage in self-appraisal.
