Biography
Tony Tin is the Director of Library and Learning Resources at VinUniversity, where he leads the university’s transformation into a smart, AI-driven library aligned with VinUni’s QS Top-100 vision. Under his leadership, the library has become a catalyst for innovation, integrating artificial intelligence, augmented reality, and immersive technologies to advance learning, research, and community engagement.
Prior to joining VinUniversity, Tony held senior leadership positions in Canadian higher education, including Head of Digital Initiatives and Library Director, where he spearheaded major digital transformations and managed electronic resources at the University of Waterloo and Athabasca University. His pioneering work in mobile and online learning earned international recognition, most notably the International E-Learning Award for the Mobile ESL Project (2012, Athabasca University) and the Foundations of Academic Success Project (2018, University of Waterloo).
At VinUniversity, Tony’s landmark initiatives – such as the Metaverse Museum and the AI Career Development Digital Handbook – have garnered both national and international acclaim, including the Vietnam Digital Content Creation Award (2023, 2024) and the QS Reimagine Education Award (2023, 2024).
He holds a Bachelor of Education and Master of Library and Information Studies from the University of Alberta, as well as a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts from McGill University. Tony is also the first librarian from Vietnam to attend the Leadership Institute for Academic Librarians (LIAL) at Harvard University, underscoring his commitment to leadership excellence and global engagement.
A passionate advocate for AI-enhanced education, open knowledge, and institutional storytelling, Tony has authored numerous publications and presented internationally on digital libraries, generative AI, the metaverse, and mobile learning. Through his visionary leadership, he continues to advance digital scholarship and redefine the role of academic libraries across Asia and beyond.
