Biography
Associate Professor, PhD, MD Le Van Thanh is a leading expert in Gastrointestinal Surgery – Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery, currently working at the Department of Gastrointestinal, Hepatobiliary and Urological Surgery, Vinmec Times City International Hospital, and concurrently holding the position of Deputy Chief Medical Officer for Surgical Division, Vinmec Healthcare System.
With many years of experience in gastrointestinal surgery – especially in liver, biliary, pancreatic surgery, and liver transplantation -Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Van Thanh has directly performed and supervised numerous complex surgeries, giving new hope and life to thousands of patients with severe hepatobiliary diseases.
He graduated as a General Practitioner from the Vietnam Military Medical Academy in 1990, earned his Master’s degree in Gastrointestinal Surgery in 1996, and successfully defended his Doctoral thesis in Medicine at the same academy in 2014. Dr. Thanh has also completed extensive training abroad, including a residency in Digestive and Hepatobiliary Surgery in France (2004–2006), as well as advanced liver transplantation training in South Korea (2016) and France (2017).
Before joining Vinmec, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Van Thanh held several key positions at the 108 Military Central Hospital, notably serving as Head of the Department of Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery, where he made significant contributions to the advancement of liver transplantation and gastrointestinal surgery in Vietnam.
With a solid professional foundation, refined surgical skills, and a deep dedication to patient care, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Van Thanh is among the pioneers in applying advanced techniques in hepatobiliary surgery, helping elevate Vietnam’s surgical medicine to international standards.
- 1990: Graduated as a General Practitioner at the Military Medical Academy
- 1996: Graduated with a Master of Medicine in Gastroenterology from Military Medical Academy
- 2004 – 2006: Resident doctor specializing in Gastroenterology – Hepatobiliary Surgery in the Republic of France
- 2014: Successfully defended the Doctorate of Medicine thesis at Military Medical Academy
- 2016: Studying Liver Transplant in Korea
- 2017: Studying Liver Transplantation in the French Republic
