ABOUT THE POSITION
A Chief Resident is an individual selected to serve in a one-year, full-time leadership role in a residency program. It is perceived as a position of great honor and a distinguished opportunity for a junior physician to cultivate his or her clinical, teaching, research, and leadership skills. Chief Residents also bring significant value to a program and institution. During their Chief Resident tenure, chiefs may relieve program leaders and staff of teaching and administrative responsibilities. Moreover, as highly motivated and effective leaders, Chief Residents enable a program and institution to develop a pipeline of junior faculty who will hopefully remain involved in the program as core faculty or Associate Program Directors after their Chief Resident experience.
Given the benefits of a Chief Resident role to the individual who holds the position, to the program, and to the institution as a whole, the VinUniversity Internal Medicine endeavors to establish a Chief Resident model. Like many other medical subspecialities, the Chief Resident will assume this year-long position for the academic year after the terminal year of training.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Your total FTE will be 100%. You will be responsible for 05 major areas of teaching, clinical work, educational leadership, scholarly activities. The workload allocation will be based on faculty ranking and faculty track in alignment with international standards and practices.
1. Clinical (50%) responsibilities include but not limited to the following:
- Carry out clinical work at teaching hospitals including VMTC mainly and other sites (one to two months a year) in the context of residency education, including rounding, bedside teaching daily with residents and medical students
- Carry out clinical work at Ocean Park Clinic in the context of residency education including precepting for residents in clinics.

- End of rotation evaluation.
2. Teaching (20%) responsibilities include but not limited to the following:
Participation in active teaching with a focus on GME trainees, but also incorporate UME teaching (i.e. clerkship students) as needed, utilizing case presentations, active teaching methods, and other inquiry-based pedagogical modalities. The teaching categories include but not limited to:
- Participation as a facilitator for teaching conferences at noon and in other teaching sessions such as didactic lectures, case conference, journal club, Core Clinical Skills (CCS), simulation, pedagogy, orientation, etc.
- Prepare detailed syllabi and high-quality instructional materials for assigned curricula components in the IM program.

- Feedback from residents/medical students of the teaching
3. Educational Leadership (15%)
- Core faculty of the IM residency program.
- Work closely with the PD, APDs to increase the quality of the program through the following activities: supervising Medicine residents in all aspects including academic, well-being, logistical and career advising; bridging the gap between residents and program leaderships; and consult the leaderships on program development.
- Contribute to educational policies, procedures, and other activities as requested for CHS and GME programs, such as facilitating CME courses, participating in recruitment process, and supporting CHS or GME-wide events.
- The Chief Resident will have regular meetings (at least 1/month) with the residents with minutes provided to the Program Director and regular meetings (at least 1/month) with the Program Director to provide an overview of resident activities.
Key deliverables:
- Number of new curricular proposals developed / submitted
- The degree of contribution to admissions, recruitment, building governance / regulations / policies, etc.
4. Scholarly activities (10%)
- Focus on dissemination of knowledge in the following spaces: interprofessional education, medical education, competency-based frameworks, internal medicine, etc.
- This may include IRB-approved research projects where applicable or supervise residents for their theses, case/conference presentations, QI projects, etc.
Key deliverables:
- Number of peer-reviewed publications or conference abstracts/ presentations
- Number of thesis supervision
- Number of novel proposals to develop within the GME program, CHS, Vinmec, etc.
5. Service (5%) responsibilities include but not limited to the following:
- Provide academic advice and support to students and residents.
- Contribute to college and VinUni-wide working group or committees as requested.

ENGLISH PROFICIENCY
English is the language of teaching and communication at VinUniversity. For this role, the candidate needs to have an excellent written and verbal communication skill in English.
