Biography
Professor Doctor Đoàn Quốc Hưng graduated from Hanoi Medical University in 1991 and pursued a residency in surgery at Hanoi Medical University – Hữu Nghị Việt Đức Hospital from 1992 to 1995. He has completed multiple postgraduate training programs in France in various roles, including Resident Physician (FFI) and Chief of Clinic in vascular surgery (1997, 2000); pediatric congenital heart surgery (2001); adult cardiac surgery (2006); medical education and teaching methodologies at Université Paris VII Descartes (2010–2011); and thoracoscopic surgery in Taiwan (2003).
With over 33 years of experience in thoracic and cardiovascular surgery, medical management, and education, Prof. Đoàn Quốc Hưng has held several key leadership roles, including Former Vice Rector/Acting Rector, Head of Graduate Training Management, and Head of the Surgery Department at Hanoi Medical University. Additionally, he served as Deputy Director in charge of the Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery Center at Hữu Nghị Việt Đức Hospital.
In scientific research, Prof. Đoàn Quốc Hưng has made significant contributions, particularly in cardiovascular and thoracic surgery, as well as medical education and training. Over the past three decades, he has led 24 research projects, including four at the national level, eight at the ministerial level, and 12 institutional projects, along with one innovative initiative approved by the Ministry of Health. He has published over 20 papers in international journals, more than 250 articles in domestic professional journals, and authored or co-authored 26 textbooks and reference materials (12 of which he served as chief editor) with reputable publishers in Vietnam and abroad.
For his outstanding contributions to public health, education, and research, Prof. Đoàn Quốc Hưng has received numerous prestigious awards from the Party and State, including the Vietnam Talent Award (2011), the “Outstanding Physician” title (2014), the “People’s Physician” title (2020), the Third-Class Labor Medal (2017), the Second-Class Labor Medal (2024), and the title of Professor in Medicine (2021).
