This year, QUIS18 is hosted by VinUniversity – the first private, not-for-profit Vietnamese university established based on international standards.
Let’s take a look at the milestones and achievements on the journey of VinUniversity to build the first university of excellence in Vietnam.
In 2018, Vingroup, one of the largest private conglomerates in Vietnam, sponsored to found VinUniversity. They signed a strategic collaboration agreement with Cornell University and the University of Pennsylvania (Ivy League, Top 20 Universities in the World) to support running the university in all aspects: program development, recruitment and training, and administration system. VinUniversity comprises four colleges: College of Arts and Sciences; College of Business and Management; College of Engineering and Computer Science; and College of Health Sciences.
In 2020, VinUniversity marked the first Convocation, welcoming the first 300 talented students to the campus. Some impressive facts about the first cohort of VinUni students include:
📌 The average GPA of the VinUni students in their last year of high school was in the top 2.5% national wide
📌 1:5 VinUni students were the owners of National, International Olympiad and prestigious competitions.
📌 The average IELTS and SAT scores were in the top 5% across the globe, with IELTS 7.0++ and SAT 1410++
📌 100% students received scholarships (80%, 90%, 100% and full ride) and financial aids (35%-80%).
In the same year, VinUniversity reached agreements with reputable academic and corporate and partners in Vietnam as well as in the world in faculty exchange, internship, employment, and joint research.
In 2021, VinUniversity continued to successfully reach cooperation agreements on the integrated Bachelor’s – Master’s program with the University of Pennsylvania, Cornell University, University of California, San Diego, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and University of Technology Sydney, Australia.
In 2022, VinUniversity is honored to be the youngest university in Asia – Pacific region to receive 5 Star QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) ratings in seven categories after only two years in operation.
‘It is very rare for any training institution that has not yet graduated their first intake of students but still manage to receive Quacquarelli Symonds’, said QS UK.
In the same year, VinUni opened VinUni-Illinois Smart Health Center (VISHC), BioMedical 3D Printing Research Center and Entrepreneurship Lab to promote extensive scientific research and nurture entrepreneurial spirits. Many VinUniversity’s projects have received noble awards, funding and accreditations from reputable institutions.
In 2023, VinUni has become the first Vietnamese university to receive the prestigious 2023 Excellence in Sustainability Award by ISCN (International Sustainable Campus Network). The initiative from VinUni-Illinois Smart Health Center (VISHC) has won the award as it aims to develop and provide low-cost and accessible digital healthcare solutions on a global scale. This initiative will also cover the cost of training 50 PhDs, 50 Masters, and hundreds of research assistants at VinUni and UIUC. They will play a crucial role in helping Vietnam, Asia, and the world achieve its sustainable development needs.
