First Time To Hanoi? No Worries!

Dear QUIS18 Participants,

Traveling to another country has never been easy. Therefore, we would like to provide some travel tips to ensure you a smooth and hassle-free experience in Hanoi – the enchanting Vietnamese capital.

AIRPORT TRANSPORTATION

You will arrive at Hanoi International Airport (HAN), which is 45 minutes from the Melia Hotel. You should provide the detailed address of Melia Hotel to avoid getting lost or being confused (Melia Hanoi – 44 Ly Thuong Kiet, Tran Hung Dao, Hoan Kiem, Hanoi).

  • GRAB CAR: Grab is readily available at the airport for you.  If you use Grab, please input your current location, which is ‘International Terminal – [Gate Number]’.
  • TAXI: If you want to book a taxi, here is some recommended brand which has a high reputation, safeness, and reasonable price. Make sure to agree on a fare or use the meter to avoid any misunderstanding. It is best to book a taxi before arriving to avoid crowds, taxi shortages, or long waiting times.
  1. Xanh GSM (Turquoise) – electric vehicle
  2. Mai Linh Taxi (Green)
  3. Noi Bai Taxi (Grey – Yellow)
  4. NASCO Airport Taxi (Grey – Pink)

You can book through Klook Website or Noi Bai Taxi Website via the link: https://dichungtaxi.com/en/airport/noi-bai-taxi

VIETNAM CURRENCY

While Hanoi is becoming more card-friendly, carrying cash for certain situations is still a good idea. The local currency is the Vietnamese Dong (VND) with a current of  1 USD = 23.445,00 VND.

You should exchange your currency at authorized banks in your country before coming to Vietnam. If you bring over $5,000 US Dollars, or other foreign currencies of the same value with 15,000,000 Vietnamese Dong, you will have to declare it at customs when you go to Vietnam. Otherwise, it is ideal for bringing below 5,000 USD/ ~15,000,000 VND to avoid complex administration tasks.

Restaurants and hotels still accept card payments through VISA or Mastercard.

SIM CARD

Getting a local SIM Card is highly encouraged to stay connected in Hanoi. You can purchase Vietnam SIM Card through Klook and receive it when you arrive at Noi Bai Airport.

QUIS18 Organizing Team will provide Wifi for participants during the conference. Having access to the Internet is essential to stay connected outside the conference as well as to use Google Maps, Google Translate, and Grab Taxi 24/7 which can help avoid unnecessary stress.

ELECTRIC PLUGS

Hanoi mostly runs on 220V of electricity. Most hotels will have sockets for two-pin or three-pin plugs with flat prongs. To be safe, you can prepare a universal adapter that can accommodate these differences from home.

See you soon in Vietnam and at QUIS18!
