VinUni’s Role in Nurturing Vietnam’s Semiconductor Industry

On October 29, Prof. Laurent El Ghaoui, VinUniversity Vice Provost for Research and Innovation, actively participated in the Vietnam Semiconductor Summit, discussing human resource development for Vietnam’s growing semiconductor sector.

As part of the Vietnam International Innovation Expo 2023 (VIIE 2023), took place at The National Innovation Center (NIC), the Ministry of Planning and Investment, in collaboration with the Ministry of Information and Communications, hosted a high-level conference on Vietnam’s semiconductor industry under the theme “Vietnam: A Destination for Semiconductor Technology.”

The event also marked the official launch of the Vietnam Semiconductor Innovation Network. This network aims to realize the industry’s development goals, positioning Vietnam as a reliable partner in the global semiconductor ecosystem, boosting the country’s standing in the global value chain and fostering economic modernization.

Minister of Planning and Investment, Nguyen Chi Dung, emphasized Vietnam’s commitment to produce 50,000 skilled engineers for the industry by 2030, offering attractive incentives for semiconductor projects in the high-tech sector within the Vietnamese legal framework.

Prof. Laurent El Ghaoui stressed the importance of short courses to enhance the skills of Vietnam’s workforce, making it more agile in responding to global market changes. He also highlighted the significance of educating the younger generation about technology’s essence, beyond just technical skills and programming languages, to support the semiconductor industry effectively.

VinUni is committed to training a workforce for the semiconductor industry in Vietnam and developing the advanced computing research infrastructure to promote the next generation of semiconductor manufacturing, design, and applications.
