Seed Grant AY 2023-2024
Read more about VinUni other funded projects
PURPOSE
The Seed Grant’s primary objective is to offer initial funding for the formulation of external funding proposals. Its goal is to assist in generating preliminary outcomes, thereby enhancing the likelihood of proposal success. The Grant is meant to help VinUni faculty to kickstart your research and proposal development process, but it will not fund ongoing or indefinitely open-ended research endeavors. VinUni’s Seed Grant is allocated $1 million annually to support research activities.
ELIGIBILITY
All full-time faculty members at VinUniversity are eligible to apply once. In cases where there is insufficient funding available to support all high-scoring proposals, priority will be given to funding proposals submitted by early career, research-active faculty members. Faculty members who have received an award through this program are not eligible to apply.
FUNDING AMOUNT
A single PI can apply for a maximum of $50,000 per project, but exceptions, such as projects led by two co-PIs, may be considered.

The review process also involves external reviewers, ethical review by the Institutional Review Board – IRB/Independent Ethical Committee – IEC as needed, and financial review. Each proposal will be reviewed based on the following categories:
- A well-defined plan for obtaining external funding after the Seed grant, including the identification of sources of funding with high potential of success, possible partnerships, etc.
- Building talents (for example, involvement of VinUni students in the project).
- Real-life measurable impact.
- Publication requirements: Journals indexed in Scopus are mandatory for publication, with a preference for Q1/Q2 rankings encouraged, as appropriate for the research discipline.
- Reputation building for VinUni /Enhancing VinUni’s image and global reputation.
The proposal form includes details and concrete items to support the above.

Research projects funded through this program are expected to be completed within two years starting from the date of approval notice. However, longer project durations and extensions will be allowed as needed and will be evaluated by the RAC and approved by Vice Provost of Research.
REPORTING
The PI will submit progress reports every six months for the funded project, using a provided template.
At the conclusion of the project, the PI will submit a comprehensive report covering expenses, research outcomes, publications, manuscripts, working papers, and obtained external funding proposals.
In addition to written reports, the research team will have to present the outcomes in a workshop, symposium, or conference.
