Seminar Title: What is Creativity? Unpacking Myths, Research, and Definitions
Speaker: Dr. Myles Lynch, Faculty of College of Arts and Sciences, VinUniversity
Time: Wednesday, March 8, 2023 | 4 – 5 PM
Venue: C204, VinUniversity

Introduction
This is an active learning seminar (bring a pen!). As part of this workshop, participants will take divergent thinking tasks, learn about myths, and investigate the varied definitions of creativity.

Speaker’s Bio
Dr. Dr. Myles L. Lynch is a Senior Lecturer within the College of Arts and Sciences (OASIS Program) at VinUniversity. Dr. Lynch is a social scientist and received his Ph.D. and M.S. in Education and Recreation Management from the University of New Hampshire, USA. Prior to arriving at VinUniversity, Dr. Lynch served as the Head of Research and Development for Point Avenue, a Hanoi based Education Technology Company. In addition, Dr. Lynch is a former Camp Director for the YMCA of Greater Boston and has led domestic and international service-based trips to Yellowstone National Park, Zion National Park, and throughout Vietnam.

Dr. Lynch’s passion for Experiential Education began as a child when he attended summer camp near the White Mountains of New Hampshire. He developed a passion for recreation and nonformal learning settings. Dr. Lynch believes meaningful education should focus on hands-on and project-based experiences. Dr. Lynch’s scholarly work reflects this sentiment and is focused on empirically investigating outcomes associated with recreation experience and the psychological components of creativity and motivation in nonformal settings.

Research Seminar: Learning for Safety and Control in Dynamical Systems – Dr. Geir E. Dullerud, University of Illinois

About the Seminar In this talk AI-based methods have tremendous potential for impacting the performance of autonomous aerospace and robotic systems. Such systems include drones, ground- and water-based vehicles, and limbed robots for instance. A barrier to the wide deployment of AI-powered methods in such applications is the risk or unpredictability of algorithm performance. In […]

Research Seminar: How Linear Algebra and Optimization Is Useful for Power Industry – Dr. Riadh Zorgati

About the Seminar In this talk, we illustrate how linear algebra and optimization, with continuous or binary variables, is useful for power industry, for example for improving maintenance of power plants or for energy management. Optimization under constraints is a key approach for energy management where we aim at minimizing costs of production while respecting […]
