Corpus Linguistics – How do computers analyze human language?
Most of us have probably had the experience of using translation software and receiving the wrong message. Why does this happen? And how do these language technologies work? In this seminar, we will discuss the science behind computational linguistics systems and their areas for improvement in the future.
About the Speaker: Dr. Bui Thanh Tuong Thuy
Thuy received her PhD in Linguistics from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and her BA in English and Linguistics from the University of Minnesota. Before joining VinUniversity, Thuy served as the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Languages at Nguyen Tat Thanh University and the Head of the Division of Linguistics at Hoa Sen University. Her research interests lie at the interfaces of syntax, semantics, psycholinguistics, and computational linguistics. She uses a range of experimental methodologies, statistical modeling techniques, and computational tools to investigate how humans encode and retrieve linguistic information, as well as how this information can inform the way we teach language to computers.
