03 Teams of VinUniversity Among Top 12 Finalists in the Green Industrial AI Challenge 2024

We’re honored to share that three innovative teams from VinUniversity have been selected as Top 12 finalists in the Green Industrial AI Challenge 2024! This competition, organized by the Open Innovation and Technopreneur Institute (OITI) in collaboration with the VinUniversity Entrepreneurship Lab, the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Microsoft, and Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST), seeks AI-driven solutions to promote sustainability across agriculture, industry, and urban living, aims to inspire practical applications of AI that can address global environmental issues, with a total prize pool of $180,000 USD and exclusive incubation support for winning projects.

VinUniversity’s Finalist Teams and Their Projects:

1. GREEN EYES: an advanced environmental monitoring service developed by Thao Hoang (VinUni), Bao Bui (HUST), Anh Vu (PTIT), and Mai Hoang (Strathclyde) that uses deep learning and aerial imagery to accurately assess carbon stocks and biodiversity in forested areas. By providing detailed data on tree canopy heights and species distribution, this platform supports accurate carbon stock estimation, promoting ecological balance and enabling Vietnam to gain a stronger foothold in the carbon credit market.

2. VOLTERRA: a smart EV charging system led by Vu Thu Hien (VinUni), Doan Huong Thanh (VinUni) and Nguyen Thi Kim Anh (NEU). VOLTERRA leverages AI to optimize grid and renewable energy usage, minimizing costs and supporting sustainable EV infrastructure. Its digital twin and real-time data integration enable predictive analytics, reducing grid strain and environmental impact while making EV charging more affordable and accessible.

3. SOLARIS: Developed by Do Bui Khanh Linh (Graduate Student, Computer Science), Duong Tuan Manh (Electrical Engineering Student), Nguyen Son Giang (Computer Science Student), and Le Quang Nhat (Electrical Engineering Student) from VinUniversity, Solaris integrates AI and digital twin technology to manage renewable energy in EV charging infrastructure. Designed for urban green living, this system enables cities to reduce dependency on the main power grid by dynamically optimizing renewable energy sources, which enhances energy resilience and aligns with green transportation goals

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to all three teams for their hard work and dedication. Their accomplishments reflect VinUniversity’s commitment to practical, impactful solutions for sustainability. We look forward to supporting them in the next stages of the competition and beyond. Stay tuned for more updates on their journey!
