Biography
Dr. Paul M. Lu, MD, MSEd, FACP is Associate Vice Dean of Undergraduate Medical Education, Program Director for the MD Program, and Associate Professor at VinUniversity’s College of Health Sciences. He concurrently serves as Advisory Dean and Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn), where he is also Academic Director of the Health Professions Education Certificate Program at UPenn’s Graduate School of Education.
Dr. Lu’s work sits at the intersection of global health, health professions education, and academic medicine. Since 2018, he has played a key leadership role in the development of VinUniversity’s medical education programs and academic partnerships, helping advance educational models aligned with the highest international standards. His prior leadership roles at VinUniversity include Program Director for the Internal Medicine Residency, Program Director of the Master Clinical Educator Academy (MCEA), and Course Director for the Core Clinical Skills Course.
Internationally, Dr. Lu serves as Co-Chair of the Consortium of Universities for Global Health (CUGH) Academic Partnership Program Initiative (APPI), where he helps lead global mentorship and academic collaboration efforts. He also serves as a Project Advisor and Educational Oversight Committee Task Force member for the International FAIMER Institute (Intealth), supporting faculty development and health professions education programs worldwide.
His scholarly interests include faculty development, cross-cultural and interprofessional education, and international academic partnerships. His peer-reviewed work has been published in journals including Academic Medicine, Medical Education, JAMA Internal Medicine, and Annals of Global Health.
Dr. Lu completed his BS in Neurobiology at the University of Washington, MD at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, internal medicine residency and chief residency at Weill Cornell Medicine/NewYork-Presbyterian, and MSEd in Medical Education at the University of Pennsylvania. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and a Fellow of the American College of Physicians.
