Biography

Dr. Bui Duy Quoc Nghi is an Affiliate Assistant Professor at the College of Engineering and Computer Science, and the Center for AI Research, VinUniversity. He brings a substantial track record as a principal AI researcher in frontier industrial research labs across the United States and China, having held Principal Research positions at Salesforce AI Research and Huawei Ireland Research Center, and currently serving as a Staff Research Scientist at Google Research, working across products and research to contribute to the coding capabilities of Gemini.

Dr. Bui received his PhD from Singapore Management University, with a focus on Artificial Intelligence for Complex Systems. His research interests center on building core-layer technology for next-generation agentic systems that transform how software is developed, including model post-training, reinforcement learning, and code reasoning to push the boundaries of what coding agents can do. His extensive research portfolio includes 4 US patents and over 30 papers published at premier venues across natural language processing, machine learning, and software engineering, including ICLR, AAAI, ACL, and EMNLP. This includes being honored with two Distinguished Paper Awards at ICSE, the field’s premier software engineering conference.Bridging the gap between foundational science and practical application, he brings a vast amount of experience in successfully translating frontier research into AI-first products that serve millions of users. He applies hands-on expertise in scaffold design, harness architecture, and context engineering to deliver next-generation agentic solutions.

Beyond research, Dr. Bui has been a key leader in establishing AI Residency programs in Vietnam, including the FPT AI Residency and the VinUni AI Residency, aimed at cultivating the next generation of AI research talent and creating structured pathways for early-career researchers to enter frontier AI work.
