The Graduate Research Excellence Program at VinUniversity defines the university’s vision for advanced graduate research and training.
The Master of Science and PhD programs at VinUniversity, offered by the College of Engineering and Computer Science (CECS) are designed for young talents passionate about advanced research and innovation in technology.
The programs aim to nurture a new generation of experts and academic leaders capable of creating new knowledge, addressing real-world challenges, and driving sustainable impact for Vietnam and beyond.

For Master's Programs

  • Preferred Qualifications:
Strong research skills such as data analysis, programming, or academic writing are an advantage.
  • English Proficiency:
An IELTS score of 6.5 or higher (or equivalent) OR possession of a Bachelor's degree delivered entirely in English.

For PhD Programs

  • Academic Background:
A master's degree or a bachelor's degree with Very Good grades or higher in the discipline of Computer Science or relevant disciplines.
  • English Proficiency:
An IELTS score of 6.5 or higher (or equivalent) OR possession of a Bachelor's or Master's degree delivered entirely in English.
  • Research Experience 
Demonstrated through a master's thesis of a research-oriented training program; OR published scientific articles or reports; OR have worked for 2 years (24 months) or more as a lecturer or researcher at training establishments and science and technology organizations.
  • Research Outline & Plan 
A draft research outline and expected study and research plan for the entire course.
  • Academic Background:
A bachelor's degree with at least a Very Good classification or have relevant scientific publications in the field of application.
*Note: Bachelor's degrees awarded by foreign higher education institutions must undergo degree recognition procedures in accordance with current regulations.

ADMISSIONS INFORMATION

  • Step 3: Shortlisted candidates will be invited to an interview with VinUni faculty. An application fee of 2,000,000 VND applies to candidates who are invited and agree to proceed to the interview round.

ADMISSIONS INFORMATION

    For PhD applicants:
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV): In English, summarizing your academic background and professional experience.
  • Degree Certificate(s) and Academic Transcript(s): Must be translated and notarized in English if the original documents are not in English.
  • Two letters of recommendation/reference from the applicant’s professors/lecturers under whom the applicant has studied or pursued research related to his/her proposed field of study, or from supervisors, who have supervised the applicant’s work related to his/her proposed field of study. The letters of recommendation must meet be written in English; and must have an official letterhead and the signature of the recommender.
  • Statement of Purpose (SoP): Written in English, clearly stating your goals and motivation for joining the program.
  • Research Proposal: Should not be more than two pages and can cover many aspects of your proposed research follow this guideline.
  • Supporting Documents Demonstrating Research Skills (if any): Highlight data analysis, programming, or report-writing skills - these should be reflected in your CV, particularly if you have participated in projects or published papers.
  • Proof of English Proficiency: Meet one of the following conditions:
Hold a valid IELTS certificate with a minimum score of 5.5 (or an equivalent certificate) at the time of application submission. Additionally, within 12 months from the date of enrollment, you must submit an IELTS certificate with a minimum score of 6.5 (or an equivalent certificate - according to Appendix II of Circular No. 18/2021/TT-BGDĐT).

    For Master applicants:

Scholarship
All CECS Master & PhD students will be offered a 100% scholarship covering all the tuition fees during their education (932.400.000 VND/year, for up to 4 years) and a monthly stipend: 20.000.000 VND for MSc students, 25.000.000 VND for PhD students and 30.000.000 VND for PhD candidates.
