VinUniversity – Vinmec Signing Ceremony: A Milestone in Medical Education

On August 24, VinUniversity and Vinmec Health System officially held the Signing Ceremony of Affiliation Agreement on Health Sciences Education, Research, and Strategic Collaboration. This is considered an important milestone in the organic growth of a partnership between the two Vingroup subsidiaries, based on the Framework Agreement signed by the leaders of the two sides shortly after the establishment of VinUniversity. VinUniversity officially organized this event to prepare for our inaugural academic year, during which the College of Health Sciences of the school will start its undergraduate degree programs and Graduate Medical Education program this fall, paving the way for opportunities for future cooperation.

On behalf of VinUniversity, Dr. Le Mai Lan – Vice Chairwoman of Vingroup, President of VinUniversity’s University Council, affirmed VinUniversity’s continued interest to learn from, and apply Vinmec’s high standards in human resource management and quality of service—based on the strong existed bilateral partnership. Hence it will involve the direct participation of medical staff, leading experts of Vinmec in medical training at resident hospitals. Prof. Rohit Verma–Founding Provost of VinUniversity emphasized the role of strategic cooperation with Vinmec. It is expected to help VinUniversity conserve resources and maximize the strengths of VinMec—the only teaching hospital for medical training in Vietnam, currently recognized by JCI as meeting international quality standards. Besides, Dean Maurizio Trevisan of the College of Health Sciences also added that Vinmec plays an important role in the design and implementation of VinUniversity’s Graduate Medical Education, Doctor of Medicine and Bachelor of Nursing, developing the Simulation Lab. Additionally, the forthcoming cooperation will support of faculty and students in conducting medical research activities.

Ms. Le Thuy Anh—CEO of Vinmec shared that cooperating with VinUniversity is an opportunity to improve the operating system, improve the quality of clinical research, and create new approaches to increase the quality of health care service. Vinmec thus appreciates the opportunity to, together with VinUniversity, research and develop, cooperate and learn from medical doctors and faculty from the University of Pennsylvania—the leading medical education institution in the United States, partners, and the strategy of both VinUniversity and Vinmec. Ms. Thuy Anh affirmed her confidence in successfully implementing advanced medical education models, to contribute positively to improving service quality and the quality of medical education in Vietnam. This is also a chance for Vinmec to develop professional capabilities from within. Through this strategic partnership, Vinmec also pledged to sponsor scholarships for resident doctors participating in VinUniversity’s program, while simultaneously ensuring job opportunities for nursing students, resident doctors, and such positions at Vinmec after graduation.

During the ceremony, the university formally appointed its first 66 experts, composed of Vinmec doctors and nurses, to become affiliate faculty. Vinmec faculty will directly participate in academic activities, clinical teaching, as well as research cooperation, and will be trained to improve relevant skills at VinUniversity. Especially, VinUniversity students will have the opportunity to meet and obtain practical experiences from Vinmec health systems. Professor Rohit Verma concluded that, in addition to supporting research, Vinmec can also provide data, and join VinUniversity in building long-term projects on monitoring the health of the Vietnamese population; to help prevent disease in the future.
