Computer Science Student with a Passion for Smart Health Research

Phan Thi Hien Chi, a student at the College of Engineering and Computer Science at VinUni, develops a great interest in healthcare. Chi has joined VinUni-Illinois Smart Health Research (VISHC) as a Research Assistant since her first year of university.

“This is an invaluable opportunity because I could participate in many research projects and learn to apply technological advances in the healthcare industry.  My dream has been to improve the quality of healthcare and medical treatment since I applied for VinUni. It is also my desired career path I want to pursue in the future,” Chi excitedly shared.

Academic research is not an easy job, especially for freshmen, because it requires a high degree of expertise and profound knowledge. Chi shared that she often found herself incompetent because of her limited skill set; however, her anxiety soon disappeared thanks to the support, guidance, and encouragement of the faculty. “I had the courage to learn and discover unknown knowledge and improve myself. I have now more clearly defined the research path I want to pursue in the future. I am truly grateful for this experience at VinUni.”

Besides her research skills, Chi also takes pride in her improved communication skills, especially in English. Chi shared: “As an introvert, it usually takes me quite a long time to make new friends and fit in. Many courses in the past two semesters required teamwork, so I learned to share my personal opinions and listen to others. This has helped me not only finish my work efficiently but also make more new friends who are very cute and talented at VinUni.”

When asked about the one thing Chi is most proud of as a member of the VinUni community, Chi said it was “the opportunity to learn and grow in an environment of respect and kindness”. Chi shared, “Every person I met has their own personality and talents, and everyone here respects diversity and creates space for individual growth. Above all, I love the VinUni community for the kindness and gentle care I receive from the people here, and I am also proud to have been a part of the community, spreading more kindness every day.”
