There might be a period the propagation environment experiences a deep fading and thus the quality of service for one or multiple users is unacceptable. A promising technology for the sixth-generation wireless communication is smart, cost-effectively, and reconfigurable wireless communication environment that is called intelligent reflecting surface (IRS). This technology allows a base station or users to reconfigure the reflection elements to essentially change the overall propagation environment almost instantly to combat any deep fading and thus boost the overall system performance.
