On October 16, 2024, French Ambassador Olivier Brochet delivered a keynote speech at <\/span>Franconomics 2024<\/span><\/b>, a forum held at <\/span>VinUniversity. His address emphasized the growing cooperation between France and Vietnam, particularly following the recent visit of <\/span>Vietnamese General Secretary T\u00f4 L\u00e2m to France.<\/p>\n

Olivier Brochet, French Ambassador to Vietnam<\/em><\/p>\n

The forum, themed <\/span>“Renewable Energy: A Scenario for a Green Future,”<\/span><\/b> focused on the two countries’ collaboration in transitioning to renewable energy. Ambassador Brochet highlighted the recently established <\/span>Global Strategic Partnership between France and Vietnam, which aims to drive future projects related to energy transition. He praised Vietnam\u2019s ambitious commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 and gradually phasing out fossil fuels by the 2040s.<\/p>\n

France, through the <\/span>Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP)<\/span><\/b>, has committed <\/span>\u20ac500 million<\/span><\/b> to support Vietnam\u2019s energy transition efforts. French organizations, including the <\/span>French Development Agency (AFD)<\/span><\/b>, are actively involved in improving Vietnam\u2019s energy infrastructure, such as modernizing the power grid.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Ambassador also discussed France\u2019s <\/span>GEMMES<\/span><\/b> program, which is entering its second phase to help Vietnam manage its energy transition. He invited Vietnam to join the <\/span>Coal Transition Accelerator (CTA)<\/span><\/b>, a global initiative to speed up the phase-out of coal. Additionally, he highlighted the contributions of French companies like <\/span>EDF<\/span><\/b> and <\/span>Total Energies<\/span><\/b> in advancing Vietnam\u2019s renewable energy initiatives.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Looking ahead, Ambassador Brochet outlined key areas for future cooperation, including <\/span>green hydrogen<\/span><\/b>, <\/span>nuclear energy<\/span><\/b>, and <\/span>innovative energy research<\/span><\/b>. These efforts will be further showcased during the <\/span>Franco-Vietnam Year of Innovation<\/span><\/b>, set to take place in mid-2025. He reaffirmed France\u2019s commitment to working closely with Vietnam to develop solutions tailored to the country\u2019s unique energy challenges.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
