I find strong empirical evidence that when the proportion of female senior managers is large, the gender gap in terms of salary and employment rate for full time employees reduces. Further, I empirically show that once glass ceiling is cracked at senior management level, female managers are more likely to be sitting at the top management of firms; a possible mechanism underlying the impact of the presence of female senior managers on gender equality environment. Finally, I document that enhanced gender equality environment improves firm performance due to more skilled female workers replacing male predecessors.<\/p>\n<p><strong>About the Speaker:\u00a0<\/strong>Dr. Jun Myung Song got both of\u00a0bachelor\u2019s\u00a0degree\u00a0(majoring in Actuarial Studies, Finance and Japanese) and PhD\u00a0degree\u00a0(majoring in Finance) from\u00a0the\u00a0University of New South Wales, Australia.\u00a0His first teaching experience at the university\u00a0level\u00a0was in 2012 as a casual tutor.\u00a0At the time, he realized his passion for teaching students then moved into PhD program straight after his undergraduate degree\u00a0(with Honours)\u00a0to become a professor.\u00a0Prior to joining\u00a0VinUniversity, he served as a Research Professor at Korea University.\u00a0As a Korean-born New Zealand citizen,\u00a0who also has lived in multiple countries\u00a0throughout\u00a0Asia-Pacific, he\u00a0has great cultural-awareness and\u00a0various experiences\u00a0to share\u00a0with\u00a0our\u00a0VinUniversity\u00a0students.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Abstract:\u00a0This study investigates whether the presence of women at senior management level improves gender equality environment in South Korea.
