Countries differ in the amount, the type and the way they consume alcohol. Forces that shape the use of alcohol and its potential health effects are numerous and the use of alcohol has an important web of correlates\/determinants that reflect social and religious norms in different countries. Despite all these differences there are, however, important biological effects of alcohol on the human body with powerful effects on the health of individuals and public health.
