Paul Lu, MD, MSEd

Dr. Paul Lu is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania and an Attending Physician in the Division of General Internal Medicine at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Lu graduated cum laude from the University of Washington with a Bachelor of Science with College Honors in Neurobiology. He received his medical degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where he co-founded the Einstein HEART (HIV Education And Rapid Testing) club to provide free HIV screening and counseling at several local universities. Dr. Lu completed his training in internal medicine at the New York-Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center. During his training, he served as a chief resident and was elected to the Gold Humanism Honor Society, an organization that recognizes exemplars in compassionate patient care. Additionally, Dr. Lu completed a Master of Science in Education with a focus on medical education at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Lu is board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Dr. Lu’s clinical and research interests are focused on medical education and international health. He is very involved with both undergraduate and graduate medical education at the Perelman School of Medicine. He co-directs the Global Health Pre-Departure Training Course at the Perelman School of Medicine. In addition, he serves as an outpatient resident care team supervisor for internal medicine residents as well as an outpatient clinical preceptor for both medical students and internal medicine residents at the Perelman School of Medicine. Internationally, Dr. Lu has been involved in various medical related projects in China, Vietnam, Mexico, Botswana, Tanzania, and Zimbabwe. More recently, he has worked closely with Gail Morrison (former Vice Dean of Education at the Perelman School of Medicine) to develop the undergraduate medical education framework and curriculum for the VinGroup-Penn Alliance. He also has supported Lisa Bellini (Associate Dean for GME at the Perelman School of Medicine) and Ryan McCauley to develop the graduate medical education curriculum and faculty development workshops for the VinGroup-Penn Alliance.

  • Lu has extensive experience in teaching and educating medical students and residents. He is an Attending Physician at the Edward S. Cooper Internal Medicine Practice, a major teaching practice at the Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania.
  • Lu has co-authored four peer review articles, including 2 systematic reviews, as well as had several presentations at national and international meetings.
