“Work Hard, Play Hard” Exchange Stories from Dutch Students at VinUni

Daan Bart Dees Hautvast, Mees Jacobus Bartholomeus Veldt, Fabian Van Amstel and Quinten Kardol Tijin are university students from Nyenrode Business University, Netherlands. They decided to participate in the exchange program for one semester at VinUni, driven by their initial impressions of the university and their desire to experience Vietnamese culture.

In addition to VinUni’s state-of-the-art infrastructure, the four were very impressed with the university’s lecturers and students. “I really like the “Wines of the World” course, where we got to taste various wines in the meeting room on the 9th floor with a panoramic view of the campus. It’s truly an unforgettable memory!” shared Daan, Fabian, Mees, and Quinten.
Choosing VinUni and Vietnam as the destination for their exchange semester, the international students couldn’t contain their excitement about their travel experiences. Even though they’ve only been in Vietnam for nearly two months, they’ve visited many famous tourist destinations such as Ninh Binh, Phong Nha, Hue, Da Nang, Hoi An, Halong Bay. At weekends, they usually explore Hanoi’s Old Quarter to immerse themselves in the culture and enjoy local specialties. While they do miss European dishes sometimes, all three agreed they have developed a fondness for Vietnamese food, with banh mi and pho being their top choices. “Vietnam is so beautiful, and the food is really amazing” – said Daan.
As they learned that November 20th is Vietnamese Teachers’ Day, Daan, Fabian, Mees, and Quinten showed their enthusiasm to participate: “Ms. Jenny Le is our favorite teacher. We would like to extend our gratitude to her for her fantastic and engaging lectures.”
These cheerful students also left a message for future international students to join exchange programs at VinUni: “Don’t hesitate to go to Vietnam on an exchange program. Remember to study diligently and gain plenty of experiences while you’re here!”.
